Am I?

What's more important Political Correctness or Freedom of speech and expression?
It's a sad sign of the times if you have to ask that question. Political Correctness has no place at all in a mature society.

Freedom of speech and expression are vital parts of our society. What is more important is just being polite to each other.

By classifying it as offensive you give it power, by ignoring its use even if its used heavily, the word has no "extra" meaning.

This is very true. The term 'fag' & 'faggot' were embraced by the gay community and used by themselves, this then removed the offensiveness of it. I'm sure some people will suggest this is a failure and they shouldn't have to 'back down' (though I don't think they are) and do this but in my eyes it's a very effective way of removing offensive words from our lexicon.

Must be the time of the month.

BAZINGA!

I don't put any effort into taking things seriously from people who literally take everything too seriously and out of context and in many ways, at face value.

People need a good balance of a mix of everything, and general humour/social skills are important!

Why? please enlighten me Ahlechz

The ice can bond to the alcohol and dilute the drink a little.

However, the main reason is that cooling whisky can cause a haze (protein and other things dropping out of solution) making the whisky bitty and have a completely different mouth feel.
This is overcome by chill filtering whisky, which some consider takes some flavour away from the whisky. This brings about the strange situation where putting "Chill filtered" (No haze) or "Non chill filtered" (Full flavour) on a bottle can work in your favour.
Glenmorangie is mostly chill filtered, will check the 25yo, but you shouldn't have issues if it is.

ON TOPIC: I find being called "Scotch" offensive

Sigh, can't believe I'm seeing this thread on this forum. This forum is pretty much as mild and politically correct as they come, not to say that it doesn't have a bit of interesting stuff on it. But in terms of language used, this forum is basically a civil debate between men in tophats sitting in front of a fire with a copy of the financial times.

On a seperate note, I always strive not to judge based on gender, but I really do start to wonder why EVERY time I've ever seen moaning about language like this it's a woman (And I've seen it A LOT). I mean, for gods sake, it's like women want me to have stereotypes.

I don't think I've seen so many trolls in a thread before .

I suppose there should be an element of respect from all those who choose to post on any forum. After all you wouldn't walk into a room and start using offensive terms in front of others that you didn't know, or I wouldn't anyway.

A lot of stuff said on this forum is said by idiots, so can be safely ignored.

Ah, internet anonymity, brings out the inner ****-wit in so many people :).

I think I'll stick to what I said recently in a similar thread.

If they're reading the Financial Times, I'd expect bowler hats, although they'd be hanging on the hatstand as no repectable gentleman would wear a hat indoors (or sit around a fire outdoors to read the FT).

I would agree that most of the discussion is civil - I wouldn't go so far as to suggest the language is quite that inoffensive, but then it seems that times are changing and most people are de-sensitized to a much greater degree, and possibly see the language used as 'normal'.

I'm amazed you even have to ask.

If something offends you, then fair enough. Just ignore it. But it's very rare that I see something on this forum that is completely, objectively offensive (if that's even possible) and it's not removed within a few minutes.
