AM5 7800X3D Mobo dilemma, why do they all suck/overpriced!?

Overall, I think the AM5 boards aren’t as good looking as any of their z790 counterparts.

Tbh I feel like they get overly game-ified and branded. I don't really want camouflage patterns, or "for those who dare", or extra industrial visuals. I just want it to be neat and tidy so I can have a windowed case and it looks like it belongs to an adult...

I actually quite like the optics of the Asus Prime B650-Plus, but I imagine it'll be like all the other Primes; cheap components and bad VRM thermals. Unfortunately it's another of those boards that has zero reviews, so there's nothing to persuade me otherwise.

Edit: found a Prime B650-Plus VRM review. 101 degrees under stress testing. Yikes. Wouldn't touch that for anything above a basic business desktop for word processing.

Edit edit: why do none of the Asus ROG boards say they will work with my 2x32gb G.Skill 6000 c30? :(

I'll let you know if the ram works with the TUF I mentioned earlier in the thread when it all arrives, you'd hope so but I guess we'll see!

Honestly the whole motherboard ecosystem and pricing is such a mess in this generation it's laughable people are even buying it (I guess we're suckers), I feel like it's never been this tight (in terms of features vs price) or complicated to just get a selection of parts and they'll work as you intend.

It's a heckin leap of faith that AMD will give us worthwhile CPU upgrades as the next gen.

I would say there is a substantial flaw in buying features you have no certainty in benefiting from but are getting charged for anyway.

There's no one who's going to refund if a few years down the line you have got 0 benefit from paying for the new pcie spec and AMD decides it's time for a new socket.

Micro ATX is a joke. Either the 500+ ASUS or limited M.2, or the PCI-E at the second position which would result in (most) the 4000 series being too close to the bottom of the case.
Some manufacturers skip even on M.2 heatsinks for second/third M.2. Not that they’re the best heatsinks, but for aesthetics, a big let down.
Audio is another issue. Anyone using a dedicated sound card or DAC knows what I’m saying.

My question is why most of the boards include wifi.? it's a bloody desktop motherboard and I will not be walking around the house with it. Complete waste of money for most people.
I got 2.5Gb Ethernet around the house already...

I've been looking for a new motherboard for my 7800X3D. I've settled on a X670E PG Lightning which I got new for just under £270. I'm somewhat happy with it but feel that motherboard prices in general are too high for AM5.

I got the Z790 version of this motherboard for my Plex server at the end of last year and it only cost £200. Paired with my 13600K and 32GB 6400 it's been faultless so hoping the X670 version is just as good!

Why is it a waste of money for most people? Quite the opposite surely, as it means they don’t have to buy a wifi card and use up a valuable PCIE slot. Not everyone has Ethernet wired around the house. Wifi is a feature lots of people want to see on a motherboard. They are selling the boards globally, not everyone lives in your exact circumstances…

What next, why does my car have headlights when I don’t drive at night?

Personally I don’t know anyone who’s using Wi-Fi on their desktop computer.

Been using onboard sound for decades, think the last sound card I bought was a creative labs audigy. Yes that long ago. Looking at boards these days it seems 7.1 is a standard but would it really make a difference with a sound card? Just gaming with occasional Spotify.
Also I'm one of those WiFi users, wife not too keen on wires reaching from under the stairs, across the hallway into the study.

I've got a b650 e-e and use the WiFi and have had no issues at all. It's a great mobo, definitely the people's choice features to money wise.

People say they don't use Bluetooth, but surely they do for controllers?

Nope, I use USB for my controller.

I don't remember the last time I used bluetooth, wifi, onboard sound or onboard graphics on a PC.

Speaking of onboard graphics, maybe they should do proper onboard graphics on every board too. Not using the iGPU on a CPU but dedicated GPU on the motherboard so you don't need an iGPU.
A built-in capture card, that's something we don't have. They should just stick that on all motherboards too, save using a PCIe slot for one of those. I mean it's about the only thing missing from motherboards these days, might as well pay for that too.

Onboard sound and onboard graphics, how many people are still using them?
I disable onboard WIFI/Bluetooth, iGPU and sound. The iGPU is good to have and for none-gamers its good enough so they don’t have to get a GPU. The audio is also good enough so 99% will use that. I remember when boards where just that, they had nothing integrated, it was less wasteful but also less convenient.

You make it sound like WiFi and Bluetooth and frivolous features. WiFi it's one less wire going out from your PC and gives you more freedom where you can place PC, Bluetooth I have two Duelsenses and a wireless keyboard connected to it.
They're not essential features though are they? like a video capture card.

I got a B650 TUF Gaming Plus motherboard that doesn't have WiFi, but there is a WiFi version. That's all I'm saying, why not have more options like that. You could have one with the extras, like bluetooth and WiFi and then one without. Maybe have one that's more stripped down without WiFi, Bluetooth, onboard sound, etc. and then another model that's got WiFi, bluetooth, onboard sound, video capture, onboard graphics (not iGPU).

Yeah, me too. The motherboard just did motherboard things and didn't try to do everything.

If only there was a way they could make motherboards do motherboard things and then find a way to do some sort of add-in card that people could plug in to do the extra things if they needed it and not force it on everyone. Computer could sort of become modular and people could build them how they wanted.
