Amazon 1 Click Rant

Been looking in to this a bit more and I don't get it.

Why pay £50/year when you have to pay £5 a time for the evening delivery when you can pay £5 a time for regular next-day delivery as a "normal" customer (albeit not evening)

Also, there's conflicting info (Stating they deliver next day to Swansea in the Prime FAQ, but no mention of it in the Evening delivery checker page). As I said previously, I usually get next day delivery anyway.. but I'm thinking of buying it as a gift for a member of the family.

Enlighten please!

you get the bonuses of being able to watch the things on amazon whichare only available for prime customers, I don't use amazon enough to warrant it though! Even though you could get it for £10 a person if you did it with friends!!

I fail to see how prime is worth it. Yes it's nice to have stuff the next day but it wasn't that long ago before a next day service was something only a 1st class stamp could do. £50 a year for something you can have for £0 a year (by that I mean simple delivery, you get it delivered to you) seems a bit silly to me. If you really want it tomorrow why didn't you just order it last week?

Worth ever penny. Super fast delivery and one free read a month, that alone just about covers the cost :D

Can't complain either. Paid for Prime, then bought a TV that had a slightly wonky stand. Amazon couldn't replace it as they had no more stock, so gave me 15% refund, which almost paid for the prime membership :)

I then contacted the manufacturer who sent me a free replacement stand :p

Amazon have also given me an extra month for a late delivery on another item.

So, 1 day deliveries that have effectively cost me about £5 for a year ... no brainer :)

It is.

I pay for it each year, get free next day delivery on the vast majority of items I buy and my family get the same for no cost, despite living at different addresses.

Seems silly to pay for postage on each individual item, frankly.

obviously the people who don't fork out for prime aren't paying for postage on single items either. they use free super saver delivery and are happy to wait a few days.

Exactly.

I really can't see how prime is worth it. I usually order things Sunday and can'tuse until weekend anyway

I thought the Prime thing used Yodel? Which is the main reason I am avoiding it, along with the signing for everything, most of the stuff I tend to buy from Amazon is small stuff that can just get put through the letterbox and don't have to bother waiting in for or picking up.

Pretty much everything I buy from Amazon is Super Saver Delivery for me and the only thing different is the actual dispatch will take longer, once it's dispatched it arrives next working day (The stuff fulfilled from Amazon, not the affiliates shops and even these are rare to be not next working day delivery if UK based).

Nope they use Amazon Logistics, which is just a rebrand of another courier whose name escapes me.

What do I have to do to get a free month :p

Had another prime delivery that was late and all they said was sorry :(

Tell them it's not good enough and you want to cancel your Prime subscription and expect a full refund, they'll probably still tell you to do one but it's worth a try :D

Worth noting that super saver delivery will use the cheapest courier for the size/weight of your parcel, if you order a TV with SSD it'll likely ship with a 24 or 48hr courier, where as a DVD will go royal mail 2nd class and take significantly longer.

Of course above using a guaranteed next day courier option, prime/1st class gets you priority picking/shipping within the warehouse, which generally doesn't make a difference unless they're particularly busy.

They use multiple different couriers, though if the item you want has a cut off nearer to 6-7PM you almost always end up with DPD, if you order earlier in the day you often end up with a worse courier like Yodel.

I've started my free trial since reading this thread, and hate it already.

I've got "LEAVE ON PORCH - NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED" as the first line of my address, and I still get 'Sorry we missed you - rearrange the delivery for another day, when you'll still be at work!' slips. Delivering to work isn't an option.

Around three of the books on my 100+ book wishlist are available for Prime rental. And we don't get LoveFilm access in the UK?

So no, I wouldn't pay for this.

Must be how you're wording things, I got another free month due to a late delivery only yesterday..

I understand that being a prime customer this should not have happened and we clearly let you down. I'd like to apologies for this and in an attempt to compensate you on this, I've extended your Amazon Prime membership by 1 month. You can review your renewal details in the Your Account section of your Amazon.co.uk account. The membership will now renew in Sunday, 5 January 2014.
