Amazon 1 Click Rant

I've started my free trial since reading this thread, and hate it already.

I've got "LEAVE ON PORCH - NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED" as the first line of my address, and I still get 'Sorry we missed you - rearrange the delivery for another day, when you'll still be at work!' slips. Delivering to work isn't an option.

Around three of the books on my 100+ book wishlist are available for Prime rental. And we don't get LoveFilm access in the UK?

So no, I wouldn't pay for this.

But they delivered at the next day right? What did you expect them to do when you are at work? Wait for you?

Why didn't you order on a Friday so it arrives on a Saturday when you know you are at home, that's the beauty of prime, you can control when it arrives.

Which courier was it? DPD routinely send out an email and a text asking whether you want it redelivered or delivered to a neighbor, which is a great idea.

IF THEY ACTUALLY DID IT!

I'm having a lot of success with ordering items to collect+ locations. There's one just round the corner from me so it's pretty easy to pick up.

you're not a customer of the courier. their contract is with amazon and they are doing what they're instructed. they want proof to show amazon they've delivered it. if they leave it and it goes missing, it's going to look rather bad for them.

Not quite, but to follow the 'LEAVE ON PORCH' request. I called Amazon to try and figure a solution, and this is all they suggested. Which would be fine, if it works.

I appreciate DPD are doing 'their job' (even if it is ignoring delivery instructions), but this doesn't help me use the service effectively!

As for controlling the date... Say you require something on Monday. You could wait till Friday to order it, and receive it Saturday (which also means no leaving the house until it arrives)... Or you could not pay for Prime, order it Monday, receive it Wednesday without a signature?

I know it's a silly issue, but it's one that negates the advantages of Prime for me.

Yea, that's the biggest problem with quick delivery... Actually receiving the parcel. We were thinking of getting some kind of parcel locker, bit as it's a shared building I'm not sure it's possible.

First world problems eh

It's so hard when no one is in the house

For example.. Anyone who delivers with parcel force I avoid as depot is too far, working in Peterborough means most have a depot near, but not all
If they can't leave it with out a signature and are too far it's an avoid

Ordered a book from Amazon (prime) to deliver on Saturday to a restaurant which is open from 9am - 12 Midnight, here is the final tracking from Saturday:
15 March 2014, 2:13 pm, London GB - Delivery was attempted today. We'll try again on the next delivery day.

Customer service decided on Saturday that they could not deal with me asking them questions so they put me on hold till I hung up after 10 minutes.

They do this so often that they've now extended my prime membership by 1 month again. In the past 3 months they've extended it by about 8 months. :D

Good work ;) Although it wouldn't have happened if they'd just had better service in the first place!

^ I've experienced this before with Amazon, where I've ordered something on a Friday for Saturday delivery but it's failed to turned up. The most recent instance being a Citilink driver who got to 1pm (the end of their Saturday shift) and then lied by updating the status that 'delivery was attempted'. Of course it wasn't and myself and my partner had been in all day long.

What's worse is while Amazon refunded the delivery cost nothing was actually done with regards to re-delivery (the courier simply tried on the Monday and then gave up) despite Amazon CS agreeing to delivery on the Tuesday and Wednesday. Whilst it must be cool to get a free month each time this would annoy me, not to have my stuff on time. I need to plan for deliveries to some degree and this puts me off Prime at the moment.

That said I appreciate that it's not just Amazon that struggle with cheap couriers - virtually all etailers do. Around here DPD are by far and away the best of the bunch and the most reliable. I really like the fact that on Overclockers website you can choose your courier.

Cancelled when it hit £79.

Bloody cheek expecting me to pay an extra £29 for something I'll never use. They should still have a £50 delivery benefits only option.

I fail to see how prime is worth it. Yes it's nice to have stuff the next day but it wasn't that long ago before a next day service was something only a 1st class stamp could do. £50 a year for something you can have for £0 a year (by that I mean simple delivery, you get it delivered to you) seems a bit silly to me. If you really want it tomorrow why didn't you just order it last week?

You have a time machine I can borrow?

Lol, it was still £50 to renew this year.

I think his point is valid, though.

At £79 he felt it was too much, so he cancelled "out of principle". The fact that it was only £50 to renew is nice, but that was a one-time only benefit for current customers and regardless he'd have to pay the £79 next year, anyway.

I'd call it cutting off your nose to spite your face personally.
