Amazon Echo - anyone have one?

My parents use theirs for music and they love it, especially with prime music unlimited.

When their new house is built they'll be integrating it to the nest thermostats and Phillips hue lights so they can control the heating and lights through the multiple echoes that they have.

So the new Echo devices were revealed today.

Very interested in the Echo Spot as an alarm clock for the other half. Almost looks like a Nest.... Shame they can't integrate that functionality into a single device *Google and Amazon... working together? Given that Google just blocked youtube on the Echo Show, I don't think that'll happen any time soon*
Echo Plus looks interesting as a home control device as it's got the control hub built in. Useful if you haven't already got one.
New Echo, smaller with better sound quality and cheaper? Sounds good tbh.

Still want an Echo Show for my office.

Echo plus is on my radar but need to know more, what is the hub able to control?
Website has updated now
"You can control hundreds of devices including light bulbs, locks, switches, thermostats and more from a variety of brands, including Philips Hue, WeMo, TP-Link, Hive, Nest, Samsung SmartThings, Netatmo, Tado° and more"

They are doing a deal with a free Hue bulb, unfortunately not a bayonet fitting though.

Echo Show £199 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Amazon-MW4...UTF8&qid=1506581323&sr=8-1&keywords=Echo+Show

I will see if the Echo Spot can do the same as the Show before I buy.

Is the UK getting the Spot? It doesn't show on our site but is on the US site.

Also not sure i see the point of the connect, who uses their homephone now anyway and in an office environment you'd use something better for calls.

Also annoying the TV seems to have done away with an ethernet port so it's an extra £15! Not sure i like it just dangling off the cable either.

I don't see the need for the Echo Plus? - Surely everything just links through the router etc? Example HUE bulbs?

Don't Hue bulbs need their own hub to connect to? Same with Hive etc? If all those products need their own hub and this can do everything then it could be excellent to allow people to mix and match and not have to be tied to one infrastructure.

Also looks like it can control other Alexa devices which could be good. Not sure if the normal ones do that.

EDIT - I should've structured this post much better but i like that you can call other people with Alexa devices. I wonder how that works do you have to set them up with a username? My mother in law rarely answers her phone but if i can call via Alexa she might hear it better!

Hue bulbs require the hue hub. They connect to the hub, the hub connects to the router.

Echo Plus is the hub, or so it seems. If you're starting out then it saves you getting one and it's one less item in the chain.

Also have they done away with the Dot completely or just haven't refreshed it?

Hope we get the spot. But it may be many months away.

Dot hasn't been refreshed. Is already on V2 anyway.

Does it not link to your phone and your Echo just acts as the loudspeaker?
