Amazon Echo - anyone have one?

what is the new plus about?
It has a built-in controller so you don't need a separate home controller to control smart gadgets. Like the smasung smartthings hub.

  • Alexa can control smart lights, thermostats, switches, door locks and more. Directly set up compatible devices from Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings, Hive and others without the need for a separate hub. Just ask Alexa to discover your connected devices.

oooo very nice i must admit i prefer a single solution to half a dozen controller boxes

when's black friday?

A quick google suggests 24th November, don't forget to check that the echo plus can control everything you want, although it can control a lot with out a sperate hub, it cant control everything.

yeah but at least it will cut down on the hue stuff if nothing else vs a normal echo.

if you have echo dots do they link to the echo plus to use its controler or would you need all echo pluses or echo dots plus hue hubs etc,

Last Friday on November i think? Its whatever date the yanks have it

cool will aim.to pick up bulbs and echo then then
Amazon hopefully will have some deals with 18+ gu10s in the kitchen alone thougj its gonna be pricey lol

I like gadgets but I'm a bit behind with all this smart stuff, I assume if I don't have all these connected light bulbs and thermostats then an echo is a bit of a waste of money for me?

Trying to talk myself out of one!

I don't have any connected bulbs etc either. Mines purely used for Spotify music

The one feature i really wish they'd add is the ability to use both the lineout and the internal speaker together. I have mine connected to my stereo which is great for music but annoying as i don't want to have my amp on 24/7 and it then loses the other functionality of the Echo

Ahh I get ya, I wouldn't use it for music either then as most of it is on vinyl anyway plus I don't do background music.

Music is a bit like my TV for most other people, I sit in the hot seat and listen through the Hi-Fi for an evening.

Although I am tempted to set myself up one of these Nest thingies, but to be honest the place is brand new and I barely have the heating on as it's so warm.

I'm sure I'll try and find a use to justify buying one if I think hard enough lol.

Yeah tthe quality from the lineout of the echo isn't great so can only be used for background music.

It's good for kitchen music too as you can just say "Alexa play music by XX".

Depending on the lights, but you should be able to create groups. I have a group of 7 lights in the lounge I can control via a 'lounge' group.

I'm using Hue lights, in the hue app I have these lights in the group. But you can create groups in Alexa too.

I've been trying to find the settings to set it up in the app and failing.

If i say "Alexa call X" she just tells me to set up calling in the app but i'm lost!

I just updated the Android app and the calling setup is there.

Maybe i just need an update then. Will check at home when i'm back with her.

EDIT - Yep, just checked the Appstore and there's an update pending.
