Amazon going downhill?

Amazon have been pretty bad for pricing in my experience. I can find places in stock and cheaper in about 2/3 of cases.

Exactly why I have moved away from Amazon.

I tend to only use it now for things I need urgently (I have prime as legacy from LoveFilm).

The marketplace is annoying and would much prefer to filter out the marketplace sellers who inflate prices on there.

Order is still in limbo. They've said they'll have it returned to Amazon without any intervention from me once it's physically sent, seems truly bizarre. I half expect it to show up at my door anyway.

The £20 limit is a real pain for me..

I order a lot of stuff that costs more then £20 from them
But I don't order that much cheap stuff that costs under £20

So it makes it really hard to know if I should pay the £79 per year for prime...

Edit: I just login on there website added up the stuff I ordered from them in the year 2014 and it came to £2270

With Marketplace sellers I've found that they often have their own sites/shops, and that if you buy direct you often get the item cheaper and with better T&C's than going through Amazon.

So Marketplace seems to be nothing but a huge con, really.

Amazon's T&C for the marketplace used to state that the price can not be lower on your own site, this was found to be illegal so the T&C's were changed. It costs about 17% to sell on Amazon so if you have your own site and payment processor you would need to charge more on Amazon (and ebay) to make the same profit.

Amazon's T&C's also state you can not include sales material in the packaging if you are shipping the order yourself so it's always worth a web search before buying from Amazon marketplace.

I still find that camelcamelcamel useful even after xmas - following the trend can be useful for checking prices.

When I think of Amazon I always think of when then supermarkets were taking over from the local shops and people predicted that the prices would sore and they were right - supermarkets have and still do make insane profits. With amazons massive tax evasion its hard for competition - will prices go up in the future??
