Amazon Prime Payment Deduction

I've also been scammed by amazon!
I ordered a £23 bottle of whisky and I only noticed when I checked my bank statements a coupe of weeks after it arrived that they had taken the £23 out of my bank account!!!

I can understand why you feel scammed, it's sharp practice and you won't be the first or last person caught out by it. I wish Amazon and other companies wouldn't do it.

OTOH I am a Prime subscriber and I think it's great value for money.

i would like it if they made it law that "free trial" periods ended in cancellation unless you actively opted into payments.

not defaulting to paid plans unless you opt out.

same as they changes spam/contact to be opt in instead of out.

Clearly you didn't

How is this a scam?
The scam is that they deducted my money without telling me at the time. I recieved no emails or letters welcoming me to Amason Prime. There was no alerts on my Amazon account either. Until today over 5 months later reminding me that I wasn't using any of their products. But you could be right it may not be a "scam" but it sure felt like one upon reading the letter.

Absolutely criminal. You should get on to Watchdog about this.

This isn't a scam, you just left it ticked.

My nan did the same, my mum got in touch and they refunded her.

Sneaky, yes. Scam, no.

Anne Robinson will come over this evening to console you. Just remember to tick all the right boxes...

While the OP is being a tad dramatic about the whole thing, one or two replies are a little harsh. It does catch you out. It got me too, but a simple few clicks got me a refund and what I wanted. :)
Dramatic maybe, I just thought I'd help out the OCUK Community with a heads up. But clearly one or two of the trolls know better...

Stuff like that shouldn't be pre-ticked though? I thought there was even a law now regarding opt in/out.

On the flipside I've had nearly £100 worth of Christmas freebie gifts (sent out separately to any order) from Amazon sellers I've used over the last year or so mostly clothing and electrical gadgets and not cheapy stuff either and not even done for reviews, etc.

I got caught out by the Prime renewal and found out a month later. I was sure I cancelled mine but it turns out I cancelled my mums trial and forgot to do my own.

I was livid at first but after using Prime a few times I don't think I could survive without it now. Will be renewing 100% next time and on purpose.
