AMAZON prime

I've actually moved away from buying from amazon (and ebay) for that matter.

I've gone back to buying from shops when I am out and about.

In regards to the Amazon prime argument, I seem to remember that the last time I bought something from them they had the "sign up to a free trial of amazon prime" box ticked by default.
Which itself is designed to trap people into signing up without realising it until the payment is taken, at which point you've had enough time (supposedly) to decide you didn't want it.
But to do that you would have to be aware you had signed up for it.

It's so clear when you sign up to the trial, or I always found it was.

People that get charged and think Amazon are out to con them only have themselves to blame, read the page before you sign up and it will tell you.

yea I prefer shops or independent websites they dispatch faster than Amazon and aren't much more expensive , sometimes even cheaper..

when I did use Amazon I only used it a few times a year maybe once every other month and it was mostly small things.

I guess if your using prime then you feel compelled to use Amazon even if they aren't the cheapest which is good for them

For some people yes.

But there are still a whole of lot of people out there who are either stupid or don't know what they are looking for who wont see it.
Why have it ticked as a default otherwise?

So they need to change a common model to accommodate the mistakes of barely functional retards.

I think what they need is a huge (say 48 point font), in bright red that flashes "you will be charged for this after 30 days", as opposed to the information which at the moment is only a different colour (red from memory) and bold in a slightly larger font.
And the email that welcomes you to prime and explains it's a 30 day trial after which you'll be charged.

The swines really do try and hide the information.

I just think they need to change to a model where they don't mis-sell* to customers.

*mis-selling is when you are sold something that you don't want or don't need.

What, you mean, changing it to default to not checking the tick box for non prime users?

The humanity!

Just like all those barely functional retards, you know the old and the vulnerable, who fall for those dodgy phone calls as well.

How can they NOT know that dodgy sounding Indian dude doesn't work for Microsoft!

I'll admit they are a bit sneaky automatically upgrading to a full account at the end of the free trial, but on the other hand, you'd have to be a bit of an idiot to not see the point about it automatically upgrading. Besides you see loads of stories online where people have been caught out by this and Amazon have just refunded them, so not really an unfair procedure.

That being said, i've quite enjoyed the luxuries of being a prime member. I did have a whinge at them just before Christmas around the black Friday/cyber Monday time when they were swamped with orders and suddenly one of my orders was scheduled for a 3 day delivery. Clearly they haven't implemented a system that prioritises their premium customer orders. However, somehow (maybe by luck) they were able to get my parcel delivered the next day anyway.

Yep, my GF got one of these this morning! Kind of what prompted me to post this thread.

I got one too I was just reading it I had to read it twice just to make sure I HADN'T been signed up to it. The wording is abiguous. "Enjoy your Free 30 day trial!" Er, I didn't sign up to any free trial what are you talking about?!

Ironically I did sign up for Prime a year ago to get free delivery on some item then cancelled it afterwards.

I found it pretty clear that I'd be charged after 30 days if I didn't cancel first. I have no problem with that. What *does* bug me about Prime is that many of the benefits of taking it only apply if you have another Amazon device (either a Kindle or a Fire phone/tablet). For instance, the Kindle lending library appeals hugely to me, but I can't use it because I don't have a Kindle. I have the Kindle app, but apparently that makes me a second-class citizen.

You'd only be sold it though if you actually agreed to it and failed to take notice of the plentiful advice and clear information they give. The only people I'd expect to have problems here are people that a) can't read b) can't be bothered to read c) are messing with things that they don't really understand.

Not quite, but those are the people you need to cater for, as those are the ones who will end up paying for something they don't want and are either too stupid or too embarrassed to cancel.

I am sat at the moment printing off a H&S update for the drivers when they get back. Its about making sure you put your handbrake on when you park your articulated lorry and to not try and stop it by standing in front of it if it rolls away.

Which amuses me for two reasons, one, you would have to be pretty stupid to try and stop a 44 tonne artic from rolling away by yourself.
Two, somebody has ACTUALLY tried to stop an artic from rolling away by themselves, hence the bulletin.

It is a business model used everywhere, Just people are so into getting something for Free for a month they get blind sighted and end up getting screwed 30 days later because they don't read the rest of it.

And like people have said it being within 14days Amazon happily just refund no questions asked.

I've definitely noticed they drag their feet actually dispatching anything I order now on Super Saver Delivery, latest item was ordered on the early AM of the 23rd and it still hasn't been dispatched, they never used to do this which made it pretty pointless having Prime. I don't want Prime, I just want a decent 'Normal' Service, not some second class service because I am not interested in one of their Premium Services.

Yes I've noticed this lately, they seem to take a few days to despatch items now.
I did try a free Prime trial (so I could watch Vikings :p ) and had no problem cancelling it. They even gave me another month free as they were late on delivery of one item.

There is a difference between health and safety and sales techniques. To be honest we should do away with both and make the world a less crowded place and do evolution a favour.

I was a Prime member for years until they upped the price to pay for a service (Instant Video) I can't use properly as I have virtually got dial-up out here in the countryside so I use mobile for web with DL limits.

If they'd made the Video a separate fee I'd have kept Prime (£50 a year IIRC) but as there was no option just one increased fee I cancelled instead.

Please give people a choice Amazon, it's not difficult!

I love Prime, use it constantly and would happily pay even 2 or 3x the price for it. You make your money back in no time. the video service is better than Netflix for starter.
