Two big companies going tit for tat.

Can anyone recommend a fire TV stick alternative which will play everything: Amazon Video, Netflix, iPlayer, YouTube, Now TV, etc, etc? I'm tired of these games and want to move to something independant.

TV has YouTube app on it, no great shakes...

Love the way they make out like YouTube is so important and essential like its some kind of human right! lol

Amazon brought it on themselves by refusing to list Google's products. Either way I can't see how losing YT on a streaming device is that big of a deal.

So Google has a fallout with Amazon, and decides to take it out on Amazon's customers, many of which will be Google users? Great plan, wonder how many new users this will generate for Firefox lol.

Seriously though, I know Google is a monolithic corporation these days but whatever happened to that "Don't be evil" motto of theirs? :(

If fairness this is exactly why I said Google shouldn't be allowed to buy Youtube back in the day, I sure hope somebody picked up that phone because I called it! :P

Again?

They're as bad as each other tbh. Google blocked youtube on windows phone a while back.

It's pretty much the only thing they ever do. The message is a new twist though. It's like when Discovery was negotiating with Sky and it was looking like the Discovery network was going to disappear of Sky.

Oh well, I'll just use the youtube app in the tv, or the sky q box, or the bluray player, or the kodi box, or the raspberry pi...

Roku?

You mean Google got annoyed because Amazon doesn't sell Google products and restricts the use of some Google services & apps on its own devices.

It's to be expected.

And I imagine it will generate a negligible amount of new users for FF.

I was always annoyed you couldn't buy chromecast from amazon or cast using the amazon prime app, this is just google saying right if you're going to be anticompetitive towards us, we'll do the same back. Amazon can't cry about it.

a media pc, and yep it is **** for customers and should be regulated.
the downside with media pc, is it's just not as convenient and as easy.

damnit, so that's one tv in my house i can't watch youtube on any more.

that is annoying

If it's a smart TV, then it probs has youtube app built in anyway, and you can then simply use that. or click the cast button on your phone, which then loads the video on the youtube app on that TV directly.

Easy.

My FireTV is my primary streaming device (for Prime and Netflix) but I still just cast Youtube to my TV app as it's quicker (Panasonic).

As said, I'm siding with Google on this one as Amazon have refused to stock their gear for ages.

Apple TV is missing Amazon Video currently but Amazon have confirmed that their app will go live in the next three weeks. It's definitely one of the more expensive options though.
