AMD 7nm GPU News and Rumours 2018/2019

Still not getting the connection with hype or poor volta...
Volta was rumoured to be the successor to Pascal (the Nvidia 10 series), AMD were implying in the video they would handily beat Volta let alone Pascal. Ergo a massive hype train accelerated to supersonic speeds in the wake of this video because people thought AMD may have something that would demolish Nvidia.

It was very disappointing to me as an AMD fan when Vega came nowhere near the hype generated by AMD themselves in this video. Now there is no choice at the high end other than Nvidia.

Are you sure you linked the right video?

I'm just not seeing why people feel hyped up from that video or get the poor volta thing from it. It makes no sense TBH.

Anyone that felt hyped from that video possibly needs some kind of prescription sedatives.

On that same poster Nvidia were called 'Somnum Industries', 'somnum' means asleep; as if 'poor Volta' wasn't enough.

The whole point of that video was to get people hyped, it's self evident. AMD are being much wiser now by not hyping things beyond what they can deliver and if anything are conservative, see Ryzen.

Actually that is just typical AMD - throughout their history products that have been big successes have usually been released to little to no fanfare and products they've ran hysterical marketing campaigns on have almost always been flops.

It is one of the main reasons I'm against AMD as too many times they've run their mouths before under-delivering or failing to put the support there for what they are talking about - sometimes leaving a 3rd party holding the baby so to speak.

I agree, that does seem to be the case. I hope they've got something good lined up for us on the GPU front this time.

It would be nice if AMD have wised up on that front but I'm not calling it until we've seen more product launches heh.

Strange. Video seems pretty self explanatory to me when you consider that at the time we all assumed Volta was going to replace.pascal

And never did, so we won't find out..... Assuming that Titan V doesn't count, so we cannot extrapolate from the chip performance in relation to the GTX1080Ti & Vega 64 to assume the performance of the GTXxx80 Volta based one.

id say let the hype train begin ... mainly because AMD need it. their budgets for PR/Product launch is low - think i had rough numbers from Polaris/vega/ryzen launch and it was just so low!
nvidia and intel chuck so much money into marketing launches and providing AIB with the cash to do so as well etc .
Nvidia were making calls daily to AIB for 2 weeks before Gamescon to really drive everything .

again just hope this is polaris 7nm if roadmaps still sticking with a GPU end of Q4, covers more of the market and really drive OEM sales

With AMD its Always Assuming Always FineWine Alwayy some sort of Excuses in last 4 years @ Gpu section.

All they need to do is get them within about 10% of the performance of geforce 20xx, sell them at a sensible price and they win. Forget raytracing etc, it's a gimmick right now.
