AMD AM2 Price Drop - Now Active at OcUK!

Yeah don't be fooled by these so called cheap prices, the proper cuts will happen after the 24th so you can expect to save at least another £30 off the X2 3800+

fully agreed, don't give into temptation! just hold out until the 24th!

The 24th being launch date of Conroe I suppose ?

The thing is,.AM2 is no longer an attractive alternative to S939 owners.

The upgrade path is now S939>>>>conroe

939>>>AM2 means new mobo and almost as much expense as 939>>>Conroe and you get a whole lot more future proofing from that, so nothing really exciting in this news.

Cheap 939 CPUs on the other hand get my juices flowing ;) £200 for FX60 Yes please

Im stuck on whether to buy an opteron 165 now or wait till the price drops, however it turns out im away as from the 24th so have no chance to see the prices!! come on, bring them on!! get the edge over conroe and emit 939 price drops before it launches! :p

I may have to scrap this idea and start again anyway, I have the 2 gig G.Skill LA 5300 ddr2 ram which i had from me P4, i got a asus M2N-E mobo and it won't run the ram in 667 have to drop it too 533.

The trouble starts now as the x2's need 667 speeds it says so am buggerd, when i phoned oc's to say about the mobo they said it was my fault i should have done some research into mobo which i don't thinks right, how am i supposed to know if its dodgy with ram unless you buy it, with it being so new i never saw anything on the net at the time and now they won't let me return the mobo.

Few weeks after i had it, loads of threads popped up saying how picky the Asus M2N-E was with ram where do you think i stand on this ?

If this is the wrong place please forgive me.

You might want to get the main screen changed, then.
If you're guaranteeing the lowest prices in the UK, you have to have the lowest prices in the UK.

A competitor is selling S939 X2 3800+ OEM for £123. That's inclusive of vat and delivery. They have 50+ in stock.
So I agree with Angilion, you aught to change the wording, or adjust the price accordingly.

I can't agree with you more, not that found of that kind of marketing...

I raised this a few days ago, "Lowest prices in the UK guaranteed", but my post was deleted. Bit naughty really.

I'm not surprised...and how long do you think this post will survive?

Have you tried things like increasing the voltage to the RAM - a lot of AM2 boards seem to be putting it at only 1.8, instead of the voltage required by the particular brand, thus it's only stable at lower frequencies - you could also check out any BIOS updates that might fix it.

By guaranteeing the price does not mean they have to be advertised at the lowest price, I imagine if you phone Ocuk and tell them where you have found them cheaper they will either match the price or beat it.

If not i am sure trading standards would like to hear from you.

So are we not seeing the same price jobs on s939?
I'd be annoyed if it doesnt happen tbh, as ive been waiting AGEs for the X2 3800 to drop.

by the sound of it, they're having trouble getting more stock for s939's as they have been end-of-life'd and there are no more being made. Low stock probably means the prices won't be cut.

I tried the ram at higher voltages still did the same thing, and i have the latest bios for it.

Does your board allow you to change the RAM timings - maybe it's giving it the wrong timings, or maybe you can find ones that work at the right frequency?

Tried different timings and same problem wont boot into windows on 667, ive noticed the mobo will only let me put the ram upto a max 1.95v on the ram, wonder if thats not high enough or somet.
