AMD AM2 V Intel

Don't think i will go down the Q6600 route, thanks. Might be between the AMD and Intel E6750. Not going to go for a quad at the mo, no need for it as it would be a waste for me.

Up to you,

Its your money to waste.:p

Wether you use them or not the resale alone should steer you to Q6600.

You buy a 6750 for £115 sell it for a huge loss.

Buy a Q6600 for 150 sell it for 120 with ease.

Spending 115 quid on a dual core cpu at this moment in time is the wrong choice.Regardless of wether you will use the two extra cores and the extra 4mb cache :D

Have a good xmas:D

heh AMD vs Intel again ay lads?

We really should be looking at what longshanks needs are rather than our own. For my needs I would have a q6600 8gb of ram and a very overly priced Intel mobo and overclock the hell out of it. (btw I would find something to do with that 8gb of ram believe me..)

However he doesn't seem to need his pc for that much and he wont be overclocking. given that a fully specked AMD based mobo is generally much less than an Intel one, I would have chosen AMD for him. Occasonal gaming doesn't warrent any CPU prices over £100 be it duel or quad core.

Total £167.99. About £180 with delivery I imagen

That's what I would recomended anyway. I chose that mobo for its featurset and upgradability. 4 ramslots, chipset etc. I chose that ram as OCZ has always been good for me and it was the cheepest not taking into account "this week only" as I have no Idea when he may be buying this. It also has a lifetime warenty which sadly the OCUK stuff, while cheeper has a very poor warrenty period (Wish OCUK would reconsider their warrenty periods as its the only reason I don't buy or recomend their "branded" products.. 3year minimum guys eh :P) The cpu I chose because it's the cheepest 2x1mb L2 AM2 cpu and it's retail so HS&F included and 3year warrenty.

BTW Longshanks I would recomend that you do use that 7600gt as opposed to the onboad GFX as even playing the ocasonal game will warrent it. Plus it's a nice card.. why not use it.

Just my thoughts use them as you will.

Cheers guys.

Quad core is not for me at the mo. I don't have a need for it.

Plus the Q6600 runs very hot, yes?

I think it is either the AMD 6400 or the Intel E6750.

As for resale prices, not really interested in that side of things. PC prices are falling all the time and that is not a factor with me.

I must decide if the AM2 route is the best bang for buck / speed / upgradeability or if the Intel is the best for Speed / upgradeability?

No people are running the G0 stepping at 4ghz on air.

Yawn,

I'm sorry but the answer to that question already is in this thread.

You don't seem to be listening to what anyone has been saying.

So I'm confused as to why you posted.

I'm an AMD user but I have to say I would rather go Intel at present. Even for the cheaper systems all my builds for people are Intel now.

Had around 20 Intel systems in 2 months. Not a problem with any.

Easy, just cos you have a quad doesnt mean everybody has to get one. The Op doesnt realy say what he will use his rig for so a quad may be a waste over a faster £ for Ghz Dual. Its a shame the OP doesnt OC as i have a rig that for £180 (Mobo,4gig mem,e2180) i can get 3.3mhz easily.
If cash is no problem then get a Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX9650.

I have read that the Q6600 runs very hot? True?

You say the questions have been answered but some are advising to get the AM2 and some say Intel.

I will be using the PC for some gaming but mainly editing some pics, writing, surfing the net.

When you don't upgrade a lot like me but like the idea of being able to then you will see that i don't want to dive in and regret at a later stage. Plus as i have said before, i have always been an AMD man so i need a lot of coxing!!:D

Oh, Merry Christmas everyone

Right guys. I have finally decided to get:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) - Retail

What mATX motherboard shall i get with it that is rock solid, has good Overclocking (Tempted to try that now!) and has the ability to use the new Intels that are coming out next year (45nm).

Thanks

If you had bothered to look, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-091-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat= you would have seen that it does support 45nm

If you feel his questions are beneath you then unsubscribe from this thread and stop reading/answering them. There are plenty of others here willing to spend the time and effort to help.

That board should fulfil your needs, it may require a bios update for 45nm - so unless someone else has actually used it you'll just have to suck it and see when the time comes.

Should be a nice little combo you've got there - you going Vista 64/32?

And Merry Christmas BTW :D

Analysis paralysis has set in. It's very common in technically minded people. We spend so long obsessing over a decision, we neglect to make the decision.
