AMD AM2 V Intel

Think i will get the E6750 and then think about upgrading late next year. I have been reading around and a lot of people have been getting very high temps with the quad and a lot for sale all around the For Sale forums!!

What is the E6750 like for temps?

That's everyone getting out of Q6600's to buy Q9650's when they come out.

No idea I'm afraid. Temperatures are utterly meaningless in this context as anything under 100C is quite safe with either CPU. You're no longer in the area of meaningful discussion/argumentation, so I'm afraid I'll let others guide you from here on. I do hope you get what you're after though.

There are rumours of a delay in the new 45nm processors caused either by problems, or the fact that Intel don't need to compete yet and are happy to sell more of the older chips. Price wise I expect them to go from £150ish all the way to £500-600ish for the 'extreme'(read unlocked) one. Worth the wait? meh... depends how badly you 'need' to upgrade.

Personally, I always buy the best I can with the cash I have at the time I need it - the PC market moves so fast now that whatever you buy will be 'outdated' before you've finished building it, and there is always another 'must have' product just around the corner. I don't care as long as what I have does what I need right now. Anything beyond that is just willy-waving (yes I understand the hypocrisy of that statement given my sig - but then all that was done for fun :))

Well, think i will get this:

Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R Micro ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Now, what CPU would be best as i have decided to get the 45nm when it comes out so i need a good, cheap CPU to keep me entertained until the new chip come out.

Plus i need some decent ram. I thought the Corsair was better than the Geil? What ram guys that will be compatable with the new cpu as well as the one i buy now?

if you are going to overclock get either the quad or the e2180/e4500

if not, get a low end amd system since you really seem to want to go amd

i would pick the first one, but i have no clue how that mobo overclocks anyway. You could also get the 5000+ black edition amd which comes with an unlocked multiplier and overclock it as well.

4 pages :O Why aint this thread locked by now?

Waw, helpful!

No point in getting the Q6600 now with the new cpu coming out soon.

Thanks for your patience guys. I have decide now. I will get a E2180 and the Gigabyte mobo and either the Corsair or Geil ram. Not sure about the ram as some have said the corsair is better. I will then get a 45nm when it comes out.

Thanks everyone

I am not looking to go Prenryn in a couple of months! Just want a nice system that 'can' be upgraded in the future.

You contradict yourself throughout this thread.

Yes, i have contradicted myself but after further reading i can see that the new CPU's will be a lot better and worth the upgrade.

Coming from an AMD system and not knowing anything about Intel i needed to be sure what to get.

The Q6600 is just not worth it now with the new 45nm's coming out soon. I would be a fool to spend good money on one. As was mentioned a long time ago in the thread, buy a cheap Cor2duo for now and then purchase the new 45nm's when they come out.

The only reason i was asking about the ram is that i know some people have had issues with the geil ram!!

I don't think i should accept the first reply in this thread as gospel!!

1ST ive seen, what kind of issues?

I have 2 sets in my rig (4X 1GB) and all 4 boot on default 1.8V if i wanna o/c they happily do 900mhz on only 2V
