Which is letting FX60 go for £200 new Retail. Not bad considering they cost £700 a year ago. Yes, I realise a £200 C2D is better value, but for those still on s939 and looking for a nice upgrade, then the FX60 at this price is simply amazing as it is guaranteed to hit 3.0ghz and beyond :)

I am seriously tempted to get one. Foolish, perhaps. Fun? Yes!

for £118 more you could buy this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-036-OK

or sell your mb cpu and ram and get another gig.

but why would you want to is the question when an E6300 will only "match" an FX60 when its clocked. far easier just to get a cheapo FX60 than a whole new rig and cheaper too. Oh and i forgot to mention my customary "intel are one of the dirtiest company's in the world" comment, i feel it to be expected of me. :)

Excellent i will definately be interested in getting one of these; sell my 4400, get one of these ;)

Will keep an eye out then

Any info of where this story originated or confirmation the price cuts will be for definate?

A clocked 6300 will beat a clocked FX60.

I am also interested - where did this rumour come from I've been doing some google research and so far no luck :(

Looks like a fairy tale to me. just found this .Socket 939 discontinued at the end of 2006? Doesn't sound like an imminent re-release is likely!

The main and best US etailor have them in stock for just over $400. Depending on the exchange rate that would equal anything between £200-230.

The Dollar went up yesterday btw.

Oh I want one :)

Damn, i just got my self a am2 5200+, would the fx better ?
also would it do SLi ? cause i think i readed some where that only the am2 does SLi Proply ?!?! or am i just taking too much Sid again ?? lol :D

What proportion reach 3GHz on air? And higher?
I would have thought the majority of them would reach 3ghz easy due to the unlocked multiplier

Still no actual report though so sounding like a rumor - though i can find them at uk etailors for £300

Come on ocuk get us some in for the £200 mark :D

In terms of perfromance my conroe E6600 trounced my opty 170@ 2.8ghz in everything running at 3.8ghz.

I think 200 is a waste of cash,

Some Opty 165's will do 3ghz. I just sold one for 100 quid.

Now conroe is out FX 60's are slow cpu's when a 110 quid 6300 can be clocked to 3.5ghz and destroy it in every single benchmark.

Even when the FX is clocked to 3ghz+

Spending 200 quid on one is a waste of money if you ask me.

A 6300 and a DS3 cost £200 and will swat the FX 60 like a fly by a massive margin.

I don't think anyone is doubting the fact that the conroe is the better chip; but in my position i would rather sell my 4400, buy an fx60, and then save until i can afford a really good conroe rig... thats if they are £200

Why go to the hassle,

for 400mhz?

Or just to say you have an FX under the hood? :p

You would be better selling your 4400 true but you might aswell sell the mobo and ram along with it.

You will be suprised just how little you can upgrade to conroe and have a PC staggeringly faster.

Scoobie Dave did just that.

Sold his opty 165 mobo and ram and upgarded to

6300
DS3
And 2gb geil 6400

The upgrade cost him 40 quid....he's never looked back :p
