AMD Athlon Price Cut Coming

Anyone know if the AMD Opteron chips are going to take a price hit?

Fancy getting a 170 to replace my FX-55 soonish and keep my mobo and ram for the time being.

That's ok hehe! The exchange rate is probably still about £1:$2 so £55ish for the 170. Not bad considering I paid £150 for mine a while ago (though technically I only paid £75 after selling my x2 3800 :) )

What the hell. I just bought a x2 3800+ cpu from ocuk as i didnt think it would go lower than 41.11. Now this. Damn price wars. I always pick the crappest times to buy.

.....You think that's bad I just bought an AMD X2 6000 now the price has gone down by around 30 quid....harsh :o

plus VAT so that'll be around £70 ish, you can get them at that price now if you look hard enough ;)

I think AMD have already lost to many sales now. They used to be widely used for people looking for good cpus at cheap prices. But now they have lost for so long to the C2D i dont think they will retain their title. I had pritty much forgotten about AMD. Dont get me wrong, the price cuts are good bargins. But when someone asks what CPU should you get. Do you say, "Get the AMD because its a good deal" or "Get the Intel because they over clock well, a decently prices and are more powerful."

If someone asked me what CPU to get, id point them at the C2D every time now. Before i would have said AMD. No body really goes for single cores any more it seems and that was where AMD seemed to win in my view. The duel core on the CD2 is not much more and overclocks like a beast.

I cant see many people buying AMD's over Intel any more unless they bring out a really good duel /quad core at a cheaper price then Intel. Even if its better, if its the same price a lot of people will probly just go for the intel because not everyone knows about whats best when it comes down to it. The majority will follow the crowd, and the crowd is at Intel.

Thats why the majority of sales you see in MM are c2ds and not AMD AM2s
Amd are still a good manufacturer and these price cuts will see them kicking intels ass once more. :p

Some seem to forget Intel could not touch AMD for 3 years, sure the 1 year old C2D is better but you cant fairly compair a 3+yr old tech to that can you ?.

i'm still quite happy to buy amd, if people all stopped buying amd cpu's then that would put us the consumers in a dire situation.

amd would lose so much that eventually they would go out of business giving intel the right to charge whatever they want. same goes for the ati/nvidia side of things too.

yeah they may not be the fastest at the moment but they do exactly what i need so i will continue to buy amd/ati ;)

So your 3800 was free?

Sorta like how people were forgetting about AMD when all they had was the poor K6-2 and somewhat decent K6-3, then K7 came out... hopefully something like this will repeat itself.
