AMD Bulldozer Finally!

People have been spouting this argument for a long time...it's just not true. Just look at 1 retailer, newegg.

AMD going into the APU market will do much more for the company than you, me or anyone else on a forum like this. If a company is doing badly its the company's fault and not yours. If they are doing great, again its not because of us. We are just statistics to the decision makers and the pre-built/office computer market leaves us far from influential.

Even if your choice and advice made any noticeable difference to either company, you are voting with your purchase and voting for something not as good gives the company's a false impression on what we want.
If everyone in the world wanted high end gaming machines, we would have much more powerful computers and for less money right now.

Don't be offended by it, that's just how it works. Everyone should stop worrying and enjoy life while you can :p

Well that's the thing individual retailers here and there and not the franchises because there are not enough enthusiast to risk having multiple chains stores.

Newegg had over 2.5 billion USD in revenue last year. Of course it wasn't all CPU sales, but I was just trying to make the point that custom PC builders do, in fact, contribute a significant amount to processor companies...and it increases every year.

Well just take into account.

Monitor
mobo
ram
PSU
case
Hardrive
SSD
DVD
mouse & KB
OS
gfx card
CPU cooler
CPU

Anywhere from £800-£1500-£2000, now take the cost of the avg AMD CPU out of that.
AMD made more money from its gfx division from enthusiasts than it did from its CPUs.
If there are people willing to pay more for the same silicon then they will take it no matter how insignificant the number. I sell 1,000,000 at £100 & even if there was 10,000 willing to pay £150 then who am i to say no, but if those 10,000 did not exist at £150 but was 10,000 at the normal £100 it would make little difference to the overall.

And its one retailer covering a very wide area getting most of it to its self, there is about 10 of a well known mainstream franchise store within driving distance where i live.

Enthusiasts importance comes from there knock on effect & not there direct monetary contributions on top of what they would have normally paid.
For every Enthusiasts will effect through word and mouth many many non Enthusiasts in to buying a product from that brand which is worth far more money.
So an unlocked multi & rename here from what it was really made for, server/ corp & a extra light there with a price premium to help differentiate because being the same price would not feel right or special even if the cost difference was pennies in manufacture [there are real exceptions], basically turns Enthusiasts in to free lance sales people who pay for the privilege.
And even the Enthusiasts who cant afford Enthusiasts grade hardware are no less important because they have the same effect of word and mouth.

It depends which one is the fastest when I upgrade, ppl who always buy intel or amd, are missing out.

Is that what you say to yourself or others.... when you're sitting in a fast car at the traffic lights? I feel superior that I'll get out in front of this other driver even though I'm slammed by speed limits.

Or do you say when you see other peoples computers, I know it's xxfps faster with your measuring tape in your pocket. I'm just taking it to the super ridiculous is all but it still stands when someone has to feel superior than the other. Oh and don't forget you are missing out. :)

Many arguments are because some people feel that if your not aiming for the fastest then there is something wrong with you, which is sad.

That mentality reminds me of school over 15 years ago, like smokers corner. Too many had to be part of the pack.

If you pay the same or more for less performance, then yes there is something wrong with you.

Just because you don't have a conscience, it doesn't mean that no-one else does. I was tremendously heartened to see the following post on the last page:

I wouldn't say I'm an AMD fanboy - I just dislike Intel with a passion- not only for their monopolistic practices but also for their heavy investment in Israel - I refuse to give my money to apartheid assisting organisations, even if it means I get 2 FPS lower when I game, lol!

I don't think most people have any conception of just what Israel is and stands for, let alone just how many Billions of $s Intel have pumped into it.

I applaud AMD for not being rushed into releasing data on the CPU before launch. The corporates and OEM's will either buy into it or not and that is their moneypit. There will be sufficient data under NDA for those decisions to be made and you, I and the rest of Joe public will either buy or not when available.
We are all knowledgeable enough to decide on what we want to use in our PC and you then make the financial, performance or ethical decision to buy whatever suits you.
I will not purely buy an i5-2500k because it is the fastest thing since sliced bread. Intel made the biggest ****-up in recent computing history with that release and in my opinion have a big black energy hole to compensate for apart from their other practices. Hopefully AMD will produce a CPU that will perform very well for the cost and have high efficiencies built in to lower costs for business and consumers alike.

Sorry, ive been trying to follow the thread as much as possible but.... Is the 19th just a guess by some web site or have AMD actually said Zambezi chips will be out on the 19th… give or take of course?! And how long does it normally take for high end CPUs to get to the etailer?!

Cheers!
