AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Thanks again!!

23.976FPS with the Splice Trailer. This puts it slightly above a Phenom II X6 1090T. Again it looks like a 3.6GHZ Phenom II X6 would produce a similar result.

There is one more trailer on the chart but it is a 886MB download. Any chance of running this one too:

http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/index.php/download/

Its the 1080p 1920X1080 Big Buck Bunny trailer.

Can I also include the results in the table??
yeah mate

yeah mate

you mean the mp4 one?

Yep,it should be a 886MB MP4 file.

The Tron trailer is a MOV file, the Splice Trailer is a WMV file and the Big Bunny short film is a MP4 file and all encoded to MKV format.

BTW,did you set the HandBrake priority to high in the settings menu??

Again, thanks for taking the time to run these encodes(much appreciated).

the Big Bunny short film MP4 link downloads as avi

High is what the other encodes in the chart were done at so it is fine.

The Big Buck Bunny encode is 37.11FPS which puts it half way between a Phenom II X6 1100T and a Xeon E3-1270. So again it looks like a 3.6GHZ Phenom II X6 should be around the same speed.

Thanks again.

Well, Battlefield 3 is here - lets see how Bulldozer does in that, since many were claiming it would do well.

I have a feeling it will get beat by an i5.

Most games have been GPU limited for a long time so it should be fine at standard gaming resolutions really, games like WoW which need raw IPC will struggle though obviously.

I still don't see any appeal for BD over 1090T/2500K, it's better/equal in too few scenarios to justify the extra cost.

Good point, I just remember a lot of people saying it would do well in BF3.

But it's GPU limited as you said, so doesn't really matter.

Actually.
BF3 is GPU limited, I do believe that AMD's PCI-E implementation, for whatever reason, seems to yield better results in GPU limited situations, they could be ahead by a frame or two.

Yet, if you make BF3 none GPU limited, then it'd be interesting.

Too expensive for its performance level in current software.

Well what can they price it at? It's still below par.

??? Price it the same level as a Phenom II X6 1075T or 1090T for the FX 8 core series. The FX 4 core series should be around Athlon II X3 or X4 level. The FX 6 core series is around Athlon II X4 level.

£70 like an i3.....oh wait the i3 is still faster :(, so then I guess £35

A socket 1155 Core i3 has NEVER been £70 - I have a Core i3 2100 myself. The lowest a Core i3 2100 had gone down to is around £85 and generally it is around £90 to £95. If you can get one for £70 from a reputable retailer please tell me as a mate of mine might be interested in getting one for that price.

But as Gareth showed, in gaming, and the majority of stuff, the FX8150 is no faster than his 1090T, actually slower, and that's at 130 quid.

Its ahead in all the productivity tasks,ie,CB 11.5,DVDFfab,HandBrake by around 5% to 10% and around 5% to 10% slower in the gaming tests when both CPUs are at stock speeds. So around Phenom II X6 1075T or 1090T level seems the right price.
