AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Hopefully the results for Civ5 and F1 2010 are accurate as the six core Core i7 CPUs are much faster than the Phenom II X4 and X6 at 1920X1080:

The FX8150 is less than 5% slower than a Core i7 980X in both games.

Would this be a great upgrade from my i7 860?

I want to use it for mostly gaming but I occasionally use VMWare running up to
3 Windows XP + games in the virtual machine.

Would the Bulldozer extra cores be utilised well as it seems like it would have similar to Intel's "hyperthreading" capabilities.

If you have a bunch of virtual machines running, then absolutely. Gaming, you're not going to see a gigantic improvement in most games with either this or SB ... but VMs, yeah, it should shine if you're running several.

I tested it today, was playing Dragons Nest XD

As I cannot multi client I had to use virtual machines, had One client running on windows 7 and Three clients in three seperate virtual windows xp. It basically was at full load and almost maxing out my ram too.

The pricing is looking good so most likely getting a Bulldozer + extra ram.

It's not worth waiting for FX-8170 though right?

So some dirty bugger switched the i5 and FX bars on those official slides to make the AMD FX look worse?

Dirty play.

It will be interesting to see how bulldozer performs on the older chipset am3+ motherboards for example if overclocking is ok on a 700 or 800 series board you could have a very cheap upgrade path potentially £50ish for a mb + £20 4gb ddr3 + £95 quad bd cpu + £15 cooler
