AMD CPU and Intel Equivalent?

What is the Equivalent between Intel and AMD CPU’s?
Like what’s AMD CPU is a good as a I3 Intel CPU?

I'm getting a AMD quad core and I wanted to know what the equivalent to that for intel was and also all the others. because I'm just making sure my decision is the correct one. or is it work paying a little more for an Intel.

I need the CPU to cope with like 7 internet explorers open with perhaps a game, man and/or skype in back ground. But I don't want any lag. I cant stand it. Lol

and by keeping my HDD defragmented and organised will help to prevent lag?

XD get google chrome and you can do this on a sempron 3400

I was told that firefox was better. Which is actually better? for speed and multitasking

The features on google chrome are very helpful too for when your actually slower than the computer.

Chrome fails on a lot of sites I need to access, though IE9 looks to be pretty good regardless. I don't get the hype of different browsers for speed. Compatibility is king, no?

I prefer speed. As I use my computer for very fast searches of internet browsing and when a site takes 3 seconds to load instead of 1 it bugs me. I also like the PC itself to be fast. And form of lag bugs me

It will be interesting to see what happens with firefox 4. It is supposed to be faster.

I am a massive firefox fanboy. I could never swap to any other browser as I have got used to and rely on all my addons. Also speed tests dont take into account the time/bandwidth saved by blocking adverts. Although chrome has an adblocker now doesnt it?

yes, I believe it does. Well I think so LOL because when I was using it I didn't get any ad pops ups which I love and the general speed of using it is great. I wouldn't mind either google chrome or firefox. I'm just in it of the speed. Although if i change to firefoox I assume I'll have to re add all of my favorites?

The Athlon II X4 650 has been renamed to the Phenom II X4 840 and can be had for around £80.

So is there any difference between the Athlon II X4 650 and the Phenom II X4 840?

ok, Because I read that the Phenom II X4 840 used less power. Or so I thought. and on the box it says for advanced HD performance and on the Athlon II X4 650 Is says For Superior Multitasking.

Are these exactly the same? Because if they are I'm going to get the Athlon because it's a little cheaper. But if the Phenom II X4 840 is better in any way I'll get that. I can spare a few £ for it.
