AMD CPU conundrum :-? (AMD 3700 San Diego only £55 @ OcUK!)

At the moment I'm running a 3000+. Seeing the great value on a lot of the processors right now, I'm thinking about upgrading.

I mostly use my PC for gaming and internet browsing, I run a dual monitor set up and run an MMOPRG game on one monitor, and have a load of seperate programs loaded up on the second monitor, mainly ventrilo, a few IE windows, and some other minor programs.

snip

Any ideas?

If you are looking at the solely hear and now, the 4000+, with it's 1MB cache, will outperfom the X2 in single-thread applications.

As you wish to be switching between a game and other things though, you would see benefit from dual cores, plus allowing for future proofing.

I've gone the 4000+ route simply because I do things 1 at a time :D

Omg what a price for a 3700 i paid 150 for not so long ago lol.I`ve got a spare new an8 sli se sitting here tempted to get another one.

Hmmm... how different is the clocking ability between the 4000+ and 3700+ SDs?

at £20 cheaper, I might be tempted to go 3700.

The only difference on 4000 seems to be the extra 200mhz and the 12x multiplier.
On my 3700 i`m just running a mild overclock in this weather @2.4.Once my good cooler arrives i`ve read that 2.6 is easy and many revisions can clock to 3ghz+ on air.
Here`s a link to the 3700 steppings

Couldn`t dig up similar info on 4000 as yet but seeming as it is really a rebadged fx53 and what gibbo says i`m very tempted,i mean for £18 more?

Hi there

AMD have cleared all their old 3700 and 4000 stock out.

Guess whos bought most of it? :D :D :p

That means we've now got some cracking prices on Athlon 64 3700 and 4000 but it is only whilst stock last, so be quick.

We may have 1000 units but at £55 I am sure you can imagine how fast they will sell. :)

holy smokes batman I am buying 1 :D

4000+ Testing @ 3.03GHz (250 X 12 @1.4V)

3 X laps of 3DMark 06 (5095)
1 X Full play through of F.E.A.R. level with EVERYTHING MAXED OUT.
3 X laps of 3DMark 06 (5095)

Thats what our tech guy Andy just managed with one in the summer heat with a Freezer 64 Pro.

Needless to say our batch of 600 Athlon 64 4000's on OEM seem great clockers. :D

Clocked it to 3GHz to properly test stability.

How would a Thermalright XP90 with a 92mm Panaflo compare to the Freezer?

How would an X2 perform on the CPU score then? Does 3D06 take account of the dual core?

Yes, X2's do have a score benefit in 06 as it officially supports AMD and Intel dual core architectures.
