AMD CPU conundrum :-? (AMD 3700 San Diego only £55 @ OcUK!)

they were in stock when I ordered too.
It's only when linking to the "this week only" section that it shows 1-3 days.

In the CPU section they are in stock?

Still, havent had my dispatched mail yet and OCUK are pretty prompt with their processing

I think I'll ring first thing, if they are out of stock I'll go for the 4000 instead, knowing my luck, they'll be out of stock too and I'll end up getting a refund and sulking for the rest of the morning.

Edit, wahey, more than 500 4000's left in stock, got myself one of these on the way instead.

Ok i've been testing how high I can take my memory with this chip and it seems it fails Prime 95 after 265Mhz, So obviously I can't run 12 x 265 as the chip seems to max out at 3Ghz for stability. So I've been running 11 x 265 for 2.92Ghz and guess how low I managed to take the voltage lol :)

1.325v lol Yes this chip can do 2.92Ghz with only 1.325v going through it lol.
but needs 1.45v for 3Ghz. So going with these results I would say I would need to pump 1.575 for a stable 3.1Ghz which is a big increase for very little performance gain, and this chip does run very hot. Sitting at 40C idle with only 1.325v. COME ON THE WINTER!!

Does sound a touch warm - is it seated right? (the HSF)

any idea how much of a general improvement i'd see from a 4000+ san diego over a 3200 venice? and is there much temperature difference?

seeing these prices drop, thinking i might only upgrade to conroe when it's on its last legs.

I'm upgrading to a 4000 from a 3200, the 3200 only has a 10x multi and the 4000 has a 12x, so I'm hoping it'll at least reach 3ghz the 3200 also only has 512k cache as opposed to the 1mb on the 4000.

Got mine today, has hit 3Ghz on stock volts of 1.35v, amazing!! Now i need to sort out my RAM, trying to get it to 200Mhz!

Yes we have an extremely good batch. Technical took 5 units for systems and all hit 3GHz. :D

What cooling you got on that? Mine needs 1.45v to hit 3ghz, its not that much but 3ghz on stock volts is great :)

Well i just flashed to the latest bios of my mobo and gonna run some super pi and memtest.

I have the freezer 64 pro; i put some Arctic Silver 5 and got rid of the old goo on the bottom; temps are 37-39 idle and underload the have gone from 45-50 degrees; that was yesterday, today it seems cooler so i guess it will be lower than that.

But yes this is at 1.35v in the bios!
