AMD demonstrating DX11 hardware at QuakeCon (video)

I dont care what anyone says in these pro anti ati/nvidia post replys.

i will get getting on release 2x 5870s or x2 variant, either way im not listning to the gossip. people tend to pay to much attention to fanboyism rather than with there instincts.

im following my instincts this time.

Don't worry Rroff...I love you dude :D

Everybody, seriously...let's just try and get on. ;) People present their opinions, at least to my eyes, in a somewhat aggressive manner.

Listen guys, lay off Rroff a bit. He's entitled to his opinion as are we all.

I may not agree with what he might say but I'll defend his right to say it :)

Yes, but I want to just expand a bit on this.

As per the FAQ:

No swearing, posting of "adult" material, personal attacks or "trolling"

Those who post for the sole purpose of causing trouble are not welcome here and will be dealt with accordingly.

Now i'm not saying Rroff is trolling, not at all. I do honestly think he's misinformed and certainly leans to the green side, but I don't think it's with the intention of winding others up.

However, it's about time the Dons began to distinguish between trolling and "expressing an opinion". Anyone can flamebait and then hide and claim that they're entitled to say what they say, and nothing ever gets done.

I think it's fairly obvious when someone is posting an opinion, and trying to get a reaction from others. There needs to be proper punishments for the latter. :)

In comparison to some of you on here i am not very knowledgeable about the details of gfx but i try and keep an open mind and while from my experience of both nvidia and ati cards i am currently more inclined to ati i don't completely dismiss nvida. This time round it seems the advantage for what it is worth is with ati they will have the hardware out first and be able to market accordingly. Speaking for myself and probably a few others i would rather have diiscussions\explanations of these features rather then hype or dismissal of them.

But what would also be nice is if those with a bias just stayed out of topics concerning the other company to the one they like and leave it at that these fourms would be so much more polite and helpful if that happened rather then every topic on nvidia or ati being hijacked by their respective diehards. Some of us are thick and want to learn more about things rather then argue who is better :).

If you think about it though, there's two different types of biased people on her.

I'm obviously biased against nVidia. Though the reasons are to do with them being slimy and sneaky.

A view that a lot of people take. When people are biased against nVidia it's for this reason most of the time.

I acknowlege that they make good hardware though.

When it comes to some people though, all they do is make stuff up about how poor ATi is and base their lack competence as the deciding factor.

People recite this BS against ATi as if they make cards that don't even work. This is ridiculous. I have a problem with nVidia's marketing strategies and how they operate business.

You can't deny that they're pretty slimy and untrustworthy.

It's when people like Rroff feel the need to dismiss anything that ATi does is when people like me, Tute, Loadsamoney, Layte and others have something to say.

If people are making lies up about anything and I notice it I'll have something to say.

I personally dismiss nVidia because I don't want to support their underhanded ways by giving them my money.

On the other hand, if they were significantly cheaper than ATi for equal performance or thereabout, I know I'd buy an nVidia card, but what's the chance of that?

What I'm basically trying to say is that the people who complain about ATi usually talk nonsense about poor drivers poor quality hardware, unreliability and complete lack of quality.

When people talk negative about nVidia it's about valid reasons that everyone knows, like I've said about their underhanded ways.

You can be anti nVidia without being an ATi fanboy.

I like the way he says turn this on and the FPS goes up. Of course it goes up you just cut out a bunch of rocks in the background. Look at around 5:15 at the background he says however and switched a setting. Loads of rocks vanish.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned that I skim read most of the posts.

Kylew i know what you mean and i agree i have not had a single problem with ati drivers since i switched to them but i know some do but not as widespread as it is made out. Same thing i found nvidia drivers to be lousy causing on average for me 4-6 bsod's a week but i know not everyone has that level of problem. On the driver front i am not sure there is that much difference between either of them sometimes there are problems and sometimes there isn't and it applies to both camps equally.

Now on business practices well thats completely one sided as far as i am concerned nvidia are not a company i am happy to give money too anymore not because i think their hardware is rubbish but i don't want to feel i am supporting the shenanigans they get upto as a company.

Basically i am sick of fanboyism and would just prefer the fanboys to stick to their own threads rather then feeling the need to constantly try and derail threads about the other side, as that gets tedious and has caused what were good threads to end up as wastes of space in the past. If you have a bias be happy about it and keep it too yourself don't take it where it isn't needed or wanted or doesn't do any good.

It's interesting tech, and does look to be along the lines of what was supposed to be in DX10 before it got nerfed. The big question is are the next consoles in prototype form being released to the big studios yet? (are they even in the design stage?). It's all well and good having these features, but if they continue to be bolt-ons to console ports there's not much point is there?

I'm actually more interested in the OpenCL stuff as my PS3 does me fine for gaming :)

I'm pretty sure DX11 is built around modularity anyway. If the hardware doesn't have the features, then they're turned off and or replaced with pre-DX11 features. That way it enables games to run on DX10 and DX9 hardware instead of them not being able to run at all.

I think anyway, I've got a feeling I'm wrong.

They are special DX11 rocks, they are so uber you can't see them :)

i personally think everyone should look forward to DX11 for whatever reason, it's got more features than DX9 and since DX9 is gettin on in years now its about time a new standard is used and supported by all, and i'm hoping a lot of game devs see the improvements of DX11 and all start to support it, think for the time being though i'll pick up some 4890's cheap untill the prices for DX11 cards settle and more cards come out to see competitve pricing. i'm in no rush to start using a DX11 card but want to see it used to its full potential in the future.

This post speaks the truth. Most of the threads i post in are the anti ati threads just to try and correct the bs that people talk. Recently my mate asked me about going crossfire but had worries because he read these forums and seen all the anti ati crap he now has 4890 crossfire which is running flawless kicking the butt out of all his games fps wise and stability so hes well happy he got a cheap and fast solution. I have been called a fan boy quite a few times but i gladly swapped my hd3870 for his 8800gtx because its the better card.

Thing is from that video the benefits to us gamers are there to be seen so Rfoff's post does seem rather anti ati like he does in a lot of his posts especially physx which no games really make use off well. To me it sounds like hes contradicting himself because any of the features mentioned in the video could easily be bigger.

^^You are probably right, a decent dual core cpu with an 8000 series nvidia / 3000 ati card and 2gb ram and you still are able to play a majority of games to a reasonable standard. As has been said before, we haven't yet tapped the full potential of Dx9. We shall see what the developers bring forth.
