It has been announced by Club3D and it is released somewhere towards the end of December according to Club3D. (Apparently about $35... so I imagine the same in pounds).

Yes but there is little that they can do about VAT. We generally have a higher income and cost of living, it is normal for our RRP to match that as well as to cover the costs of managing/shipping and selling the product in the UK.

Lets not start moaning about the price until we see the numbers.

They could have done 4K120 months ago but instead they're going to drip feed us gradually bigger numbers in rez/refresh rate/response time to maximize profits.

When it finally comes it'll probably be crappy TN first, then "high-end" TN, then slow IPS, then fast VA, then slightly faster IPS, etc etc.

I see no issue with AMD controlling it like Nvidia does with Gsync. It should only benefit the end experience for us the users.

Oh when the shoe is on the over foot....

When AMD uses a closed standard it's for the benefit of the end user. When nVidia do it's greed and money grabbing.

This is a general observation based on the majority of the general brand bashing. It's not aimed directly at you Stanners.

a lot of it was good stuff but highly dependent of other company and group to support going forward. Also this in the Anandtech write up this is interesting:

So much for AMD being free and open with there standards ? .

What's the point, Nvidia won't use it and Intel performance isn't really worth considering for gaming or likely to be for sometime anyway. There's no-one else to be open with.

(Good points)

Great announcements and slides.
DP1.3
HDMI 2
4K 120hz
single cable 4.4.4 5K60

I was waiting for red or green to announce VRR over HDMI, as they have both been working on it for a while now.

(Bad points)

Great announcements and slides.
Lets just hope it is not just that, announcements and slides.

HDMI specification allows vendor specific extensions, We use this aspect of the HDMI specification to implement Freesync technology. Well so much for Freesync is open and all that. maybe we can hope that the adaptive sync standard over HDMI will be the same spec, so it will bring it all back together again.

Announcements are all very well and good, but people are still waiting for the stuff you announced earlier in the year, saying due in the autumn, it now two weeks from Christmas and that doesn't even include the DP to HDMI 2 adapter fiasco.

HDMI is dead, Displayport is more futureproof. VRR over HDMI is of no benefit really.

HDMI2.0 to connect to a 4k TV is needed, but VRR is a PC specific feature and a PC specific display with a PC specific feature should have a PC specific interface (Displayport)

Far from dead, hdmi is the number one choice.. Mid range pc gaming, everything outside of pc gaming is hdmi..

Hdmi holds a bigger market than any other cable.

Hdmi holds a bigger market than any other cable.

But like most things it's because it was the first to market for the usage it serves. (Pre-dates DP by a good 6 years)

There will be a time where a swap to DP may well be considered as a superior connectivity format in the personal Video/Audio market. Seeing as the line between PC, Mobile and TV becomes more blurred by the year.

Seeing as HDMI and DP are relatively easy to convert it would be a largely painless transition for most people between potential major connectivity revisions in the future.

Chances are HDMI will continue to be developed and the only push for change is when there is a real technical reason to do so. One which goes beyond the physical capability of HDMI. That or there becomes a strong drive for interoperability between TV, Mobile and PC and a standard connectivity medium is decided upon.

At first I thought, totally agree, then I started to think, maybe not, the coaxial, or even phono socket has probably been on more audio visual devices.
But of course for digital devices it probably does, unless you want to include the humble USB socket. ;)

Yeah in digital format I would say USB, then hdmi, then I not sure dvi over displayport maybe?

As awesome as this all is I'm going to keep hold of my dosh and my Swift until all the drip feeding has stopped and I can go out and buy a 4K HDR 144Hz 32" IPS Freesync/G-Sync display :)
