AMD Dives Deep On Asynchronous Shading

I'll reserve my judgement until real world performance comparisons are out.

Unfortunately, both companies tend to overhype their new technologies and architectures before they come out, only to leave us disappointed in the lack of real world applications or performance gains.

Meanwhile AMD haven't released a stable WHQL driver in over 4 months.

I know Matts only doing his job, but tbh this news can be found everywhere on the internet, and i would imagine an AMD fan here would have posted it sooner or later, with the utter lack of any info from AMD right now, might be better if he doesnt come posting stuff people dont really give a monkeys about right now when they are desperate to know if AMD are going to be able to supply a competitive product soon.

AMD have a track record recently of implemeting Tech that sounds lovely on the surface then gets pretty much zero support...

Come with some actual info your consumers are crying out for, Hardware specs, release dates etc etc, not more software or whatnot, right now your ship is sinking, your last loyal customers are questioning whether to just jump ship now given your future looks none to bright.

:(

Uhhh OP I've still got this stuff under embargo? The asynchronous shader info is something we're not supposed to be able to write about for another 7 hours... Can you clarify?

EDIT: ok well I guess the AT article answers that, my bad. Timezone confusion.

Could you imagine, 290x running dx12 game coming close to titanx lol the up raw would be funny.
Doubt it though. 390x I think will be close though.

I think that would be awesome if it did. More life in the older cards would be a real kudos for AMD and with them supporting tier 3, no need for upgrades

DirectX 12, LiquidVR may breathe fresh life into AMD GPUS, thanks to asynchronous compute

Wonderful article (as usual) from Joel Hruska. :)

With DirectX 12 coming soon with Windows 10, VR technology ramping up from multiple vendors, and the Vulkan API already debuted, it’s an exceedingly interesting time to be in PC gaming. AMD’s GCN architecture is three years old at this point, but certain features baked into the chips at launch (and expanded with Hawaii in 2013) are only now coming into their own, thanks to the improvements ushered in by next-generation APIs.

All of this means zero if the company is not around to produce gpu's to sell to use this tech?

Given the way the good ship AMD is floundering right now, confidence at an all time low etc, excuse us AMD fans of not being overly optimistic and perhaps a little bit bitter that we get to sit and watch Nvidia release gpu after gpu and yet still the company we prefer does realtively sod all except market tech that may or may not ever even get supported....

Even if AMD are still around no developer is going to waste time making features for single digit market share.

Asynchronous shader support has been around since GCN 1.1, however it's only with DX12 that they'll really be used. As both the cards and the API are there, it's not true to say that AMD is marketing tech that 'may not be supported'.

that's not to say AMD is in a great way overall however...
