AMD Driver/Benchmark Review Thread

MSI Afterburner OSD

I will show you that DS Preset option later.

Ok matt, back to being a lazy 79 then, the clocks you used are near enough my full whack.

Doubt I'd notice a difference anyway, I suppose it's just an average clocker rather than a poor clocker and at the end of the day 9 out of 10 I'm running@stock clocks as it eats everything up anyway.

It's your turn for a good one anyway.

:)

Yep not a lot in it tbh mate.

The AMD rep on another forum said that pretty much all 7970's will do 1100/1200 on the core, so at best id consider mine just above average.

Just played bf3 caspian border full 64 player server with the ultra preset at 1080p, normally play with a mix of settings and get get far better frames

7850 @1150 and mem @1250 with [email protected]

2012-10-16 19:45:24 - bf3
Frames: 1341 - Time: 27300ms - Avg: 49.121 - Min: 20 - Max: 82

only got the card on sunday and havent had to much time to play around with finding the right oc for this card had it up to 1150 core and 1450 mem got a 3dmark score of 6400 with those clocks but bf3 stopeds working and crashes to desktop and not had time to start messing around with voltage yet.

Just to make it a bit clearer is there any settings or points in games we should benchmark so its easier for people to campare ? the only games ive got at the minute are bf3, arkham city , gta4 and sniper elite v2

I wouldn't dare send it back (shipped, don't have them yet) unless defective. As I've said above I think OCUK would ban me after 2 recent cards I've sent back :D. I'll just have to add 2 screens when I've got the money, still to buy the first one though and other things (PSU/Kboard/Mouse/ExtraGlasses). I hope the second card will do me justice in some situations in 3D as I'd hate to waste it.

Do you still have the 7970s Lightning?. If so, how are you finding them?.

Fair play :p

Loving the lightnings, although I was a bit shocked when one just randomly stopped working and came back to life whenever it was needed. A nice feature after you get over the initial horror:p

What is the highest core clock you have had with your 7870 Humbug?

1245Mhz stable gaming, 1225Mhz stable Heaven stressed., not a good Gigabyte 7870 clocker, average is 1275Mhz Heaven stable on these cards

@ Rik1254. The first pix has the preset settings thingy in DS highlighted.

The next pic, LtMatt, i'm down 10 FPS in 12.9, Rik1254 did not look right to me, seems DS needs some work in 12.9, i might report that :)

Honestly cant explain whats up with it, happily takes to overclocks though, 1000/6000 hits over 100FPS average with my mentioned settings in my OP with the screenie.

Going to have a play around with it, compare some benchmarks (heaven and 3Dmark) with similar cards and see how its performing, might just be me having a hissy fit....is my 3rd 7950 in 3 weeks because none of them have worked properly.

Look at the post above you, i'm down 10 FPS Avg on the same settings with 12.9 vs 12.8.

If your hitting over 100 FPS on 12.9 @ 1000 / 1500 it looks right to me. :)

Anyway. BF3 Wake Island 1080P 12.9

Ultra Preset: Min 40 / Max 74 / Avg 56.076

Ultra no MSAA: Min 55 / Max 127 / Avg 78.359

Good news my fellow amd brethren. I decided to contact an AMD rep on another forum about bf3 performance.

I presume they mean clock for clock?

Will be starting benching tomorrow as well as starting a benchmarks thread. Stock vs OC so far seeing upto 20fps improvements, even had borderlands 2 averaging around 140fps.

Matt can you do a quick test for me. Do you get a big FPS drop on Metro when leaving the RU deployment and heading towards the cafe (A). Mine drops to around 45fps there but it's fine for the rest of the map.

I did two runs, one recording video footage and one without video footage. I recorded video to show you which route i took and if i did it correctly.

Recording lost me a few fps.

Full ultra with vsync on

Normal Run

Yeah correct route it's mainly the steps just outside the deployment where it drops and on a full 64 player metro map the hit is even harder.

Bear in mind my graph is 2D @ 5760*1080 :).

Facepalm + tremble. I didn't realise that :o.

hahaha That would've been a good test for your heart :D. What clocks are you getting?. I'm also really like the card so far and only £30 more per card than I was going to be spending. Qpad MK-85 and PSU come tomorrow.

Are you not getting involved with some benchmarking here Cleeecooo?.

Amd 7xxx Brethren,

I decided to contact the amd rep again, here's something to wet your beaks.

I don't know about you, but i can't wait for the 22nd of October. I hope im not disappointed. :D

Hm, nothing like running your own benches - great fun and all that - but ocaholic.ch do actually have performance ratings for all the Catalysts back 11.12 in their 12.9Beta article:

Seems that after a shaky start, AMD's driver team have been working really hard. Question is can they squeeze any more out of GCN or is this it? New drivers are due tomorrow so we'll see soon.
