AMD Driver/Benchmark Review Thread

:p

just installing 12.9 betas now (was on 12.8 with beta driver) and re-installing AB 2.2.3, 2.2.4 went ape poop on my clocks.

I seen and wilfully ignored that on the grounds of the 1080/1440 results :D.

I hear you if you're done fiddling. Getting old?. haha sorry I can't help myself.

I might lean on you, Tommy and Gregster for 3D when I'm up and running so please forget that I'm teasing you here :D.

All good things come to those who wait :). I've been hearing a lot of good things about these drivers. Are you on water for 1350Mhz?.

If it wasn't so much of a pain, I'd bench. Alas it's more of a pain than banishing VRAM hoodoo's :D.

Greg is better. I don't play much in 3D unless I'm just chilling. If I want to do well in BF3 it is most definitely switched off! :)

It is a pain unplugging monitors and enabling/disabling multi monitors. Also I find it is better to remove the second card but this isn't essential.

Happy to help with any question with surround/3D :)

Hey, hey, hey Nvidia users, hey!

Look what I can do at the click of a button:
Duplicate my three screens
Extend them
Eyefinity them

/annoying orange :p

But in all seriousness, from a sanity viewpoint, AMD owns at 3 monitors

lol Cleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. You can also do this with Nvidia but for best results, I will be doing it as though I have a single 680 on a 1080P monitor. Also I can make any game I have 3D simply by clicking a start menu button 'enable 3D vision' or I can click 'disable 3D vision' and this then enables all my 3 screens to output in wonderfull 3D or 2D depending on my choice. No messing and fussing just as easy as that :p

I can do that too :p

What I was talking about was that when I last used nvidia with 3 monitors, it was a PITA switching between modes. Eg, I want to work and want each screen to display something different (Extended mode) I need to arrange the desktops. Then if I want to play BF3 (Eyefinity/surround) I need to setup a surround group. Once I'm done, to go back to extended, I need to set it up again. Sure, it only takes 2 mins, but it's still damn annoying to do every single time.

With AMD you set it up once, right click and select whichever option you want to use for 3 screens.

Yep, though 1200/1600 is destroying everything I throw at it.

I can bench CF 7850s and CF 7970s.
As long as there is a thread to go to, with what games and which settings i'll happily join in.

Be interested especially in the 7850's in both single card and CF.

Will be starting the thread up over the next few days, once I figure out how to make professional looking bar charts :D

Yer ok, that hasn't changed. I have not looked for saving profiles though but it is a PITA.

Try setting up saved profiles :)

I haven't had any luck when I tried on 301 IIRC. It's a massive oversight on nvidia's part if I am correct. If they've sorted it out, I'll consider nv again :D:p

lol Fair enough mate, I know it can be a pain in the backside to even plus the steering wheel and pedals in :D.

I had a shot of Black Ops in 3D on a friend's 480 SLI last year. It was very difficult to hit the enemy compared to normal so I can kinda relate to what you're saying about MP. Hopefully I can adjust with more use as I'd love to be able to play in MP in 3D.

Yeah I'll let Rusty off with it, this time!!!. :p

You may regret saying that...... joking. I'll only ask if Google starts withholding information. Thank you Gregster.

I think I've made a wrong choice of 680 SLI on a single 27" 1080 Acer :(. I was hoping that it would let me run everything nearly at full with 3D. I take it can do this and more @ 1920x1080?. If so then what could I get for supporting screens?. I've still to get my QPAD-MK85, R.A.T Mouse, Corsair 750w Gold PSU, extra pair of glasses, plus the Asus VG278H. I'll most likely have to wait. If I send this back I think OCUK will ban me from buying as I've already sent back a 670 and 7970 :o.

Yep, though 1200/1600 is destroying everything I throw at it.

Nice. I must have had a duff 7970 as I was near those speeds (core) and BF3 wasn't as smooth as my 670. I blame the card now more as everyone else doesn't share my experience.

680 SLI? More than enough for 1080p 3D max settings :).

I was more worried it was way overpowered. From your graph, it seems as if it'll be enough for max settings or near too @ 1080 in the most demanding games but fly in most. Now I've got to worry about CPU grunt. I can't wait but won't be able to experience 3D till the end of the week. Cards come tomorrow but PSU Wednesday/Thursday.

Thank you for your input, it's appreciated. My 10 minutes on Black Ops in 3D doesn't give me much experience to shine from plus it was 2 card generations ago and there's new games a plenty.

680 SLI is a tad OTT for a single 3D 1080P screen, a single one would suffice. Now that you've got it you may as well keep it though :p

yes ? so ? and ? I bet the same crashes are not fixed on the official

The way it works is AMD let you tryout unofficial unfinished Drivers in return for helping them identify problems with said Drivers here

It's people who moan and whinge about broken Drivers that are not complete, finished or even intended to be used for every day use at all who give a false impression of a product. You said yourself 12.8 don't have those issues, well that's because they are complete and intended for general use.
It's people like you can cause a company to remove BETA testing from public. thank you very much.
The general rule is expect BETA Drivers to be broken
