**AMD Fiji Thread**

Well my card is not what I'd class as an overclockers dream, locked memory, no voltage control, maybe only in my dreams.

Early days though yet, +100mv could make a vast improvement, but the card is so new so the current software available can only alter core clock.

I think in the next few months we should be good for at least 10% improvent from the drivers alone. With the Fury X Fiji cards AMD are starting from scratch which is totally different to what NVidia had with the GM200 cards.

With the Titan X and 980 ti they already had a head start with drivers as the 970 and 980 share the same Maxwell architecture.

I hate to read between the lines, but are you saying there is a chance it will be lower.

I have spent the past few days convincing myself that 649 wasn't too bad since stock was going to be fairly low.

At least I know it won't be higher. Ready to pull the trigger on Wednesday.

Cheers Gibbo

Spot on.

Right now you can get upto 10% more from clocking I'd say. Add in voltage control that could easily become 20% or more.

Drivers a further 10% with ease I suspect and the Fury could well strike down upon NVIDIA with furious anger. :D

I'm just hoping it won't take long for more stock to filter through, though knowing asus they'll have their premium slapped on "cause asus" even though they're likely all reference boards built by the one company (iirc its sapphire that build amd reference cards?).

Gibbo, not sure if you can answer this in any way due to the NDA.

You've mentioned Fury being impressive against the Ti and TX at 4K - but would your words change slightly for 1440p?

I'm worried that I'll be making a rash decision at 1pm on Wednesday. The alternative of waiting another few weeks is clearly smarter, but Damn I want that card.

I can never justify spending more than £300 on a GPU but this does look rather tasty, if the cooler really does keep it this cool then I wonder how much is left for overclocking, providing the VRM's don't overheat. Would go very nicely with a Asus MG279Q, maybe a bundle at some point :P

I expect amd have limited launch stock again to artificially inflate the hype and price

Had it not got hbm i'd agree, at least that gives some reason as to why numbers maybe be short as its brand new for gpu''s. Titan x and 980ti had supply issues yet theyre both on standard tech that has been around donkeys years now.

I'd say just wait, paying £100 extra just to have it earlier imo is nuts.

Oh I fully agree. New gpus can make me a bit nuts though. I have the money saved up so I could easily afford it, which makes it that much harder to do the smart thing and wait!
Yea if I dont manage to get one I'll have to get something. Since my 7950 died last month my integrated graphics is struggling slightly with Witcher 3!

I know man, it's been hard with that £500 980ti this weekend. We gotta stay strong! Although I have a 290 left to tide me over.

I always fail to understand why Amd and Nvidia can never produce enough cards on a launch day to satisfy demand or even for that matter several weeks later. Its very poor in my opinion and always leads to this 'frenzy' of customers trying to get one and more importantly having to pay over the odds. Why can they not hold off until they have enough to go round or am I not being cynical enough here and they do have plenty but are allowing vendors to 'cash in'. I am holding off for the 'frenzy' to diminish to around the end of july beginning of august time when there will be plenty of reviews etc to allow a more reasoned approach to be taken. I guess my age (57) may have something to do with my attitude and cynicism. ;):D

so asus saphire etc have lost out with the fury x then? as they will all be only be made by amd
im talking about the water cooled version

Fury x is watercooled, no air cooled version that has been talked about yet. There is an air cooled fury which is rumoured to have a slightly cut down spec, probably be like going from 290x to 290 if past history is anything to go by.

Far as im aware sapphire make the amd boards.
