AMD has console gaming in its pocket, but can it squeeze out Nvidia on the PC?

Very true. But it seems to be that some people on here despise nVidia to the point of wishing they would collapse...

Those people need to step away from computing for a while, Go outside, Breath deep and realise there are more important things in life than hating a company that makes GPUs.

Amd need to be carfeul, they don't want to be seen as having a monopoly in 'gaming' if it turns out games play much, much better on their kit.

Nvidia have annoyed me with the 7xx series cards just being rebrands of last years cards.
I will however be buying a new card before the year is out but I don't know where to go.
I have always planned of going with Nvidia just on the basis that they have always been well ahead of AMD on high end cards from everything I have read.

Now I feel I would be being ripped off by buying Titian for the ~5% gains but then screwed over if I brought a 780 seen as it is the same card but just artificially tuned down?

If you are going on bang for buck there is not a huge difference between the GTX 780 and HD 7970. Below is part of the Heaven 4 scoreboard.

In the table above people are using HD 7970s like this

And here is a ref GTX 780 to compare

Compared to a Titan, the GTX 780 is actually tuned up (Higher clocks bring it to within 5% of the Titan).

The GTX 770 may be a reworked GTX 680, but again, value for money they are pretty good.

When you are gaming, the game does not care if it is last years model rebranded, it's all about performance.

The one thing amd will gain over nvidia is brand recognition.

This really, the margins on the consoles are so low AMD will not be making any money off them (IIRC Sony/MS usually sell at a loss for the first few years to try and bag users) they are basically using the consoles as a marketing tool not a revenue generator.

Nvidia will not be going anywhere, and it would be very bad if they did.

Actually the xBox Next deal alone is worth $3bn to them.

The PS4 deal will be worth at least that again.

This is nothing like the xBox360 deal which was cheap IP only, as it was with the PS3 + Nvidia.
AMD are actually making and providing the chips, and continuing support.

It will increase AMD's revenue by 50% at least.

Living in fantasy land. They're not going to not make any money off it.

Just because Sony and MS have sold consoles at a loss, doesn't mean those involved in the production don't make a profit.

It also won't act as a marketing tool for brand recognition unless AMD are proactive about it and push their brand with marketing.

Ati drivers could scupper the plan

Nothing wrong with the drivers. And Nvidia not doing well lately with driver either just look at this forum and other to see.

This all you could come up with? Am sorry but this driver debate is growing old and if anything amd are producing better drivers this gen.
