AMD - How To Overclock The Official Way Using Afterburner + Step By Step Overclocking Guide + Comple

Really could use a hand here guys. :(

I've managed to get my 7970 up to 1175/1700, the thing is this os only Heaven 4.0 stable using the maxed out settings in the Heaven thread. If I go into any other games like COD4/WoW/BF3 the screen starts flickering on and off after 10 or so seconds so I have to tab out and lower my clocks, it also tells me the display driver has stopped working and has recovered.

This makes absolutely no sense to me as Heaven is a pretty intense benchmark, COD4 is about a 100 years old and looks like ****!

What's happening?

Games are always more demanding than crappy synthetic benchmarks. If you're bench stable at a specific clock speed and voltage setting, whack the voltage up two more notches then test some games. If i was you id put your memory back down to 1500 until you get your core 100% stable. Memory past 1600 on 7970 gives diminishing returns.

Just followed this, again (lol) and this time I am satisfied all went well, tried last night but wasn't happy with various aspects of my system tbh.

Originally running just a Vapor-X 7950 and Thursday gone, my Ice-Q Boost 7950 turned up, so I setup crossfire with no issues. However when I tried to follow this, it just wouldn't put any load through the 2nd GPU at first. Managed to sort it with an CCC uinstall/reinstall but my temps were about 20 degrees apart (had the Ice-Q with it's fan facing the Vapor-X).

So today I reformatted and started from scratch, even switching the 7950's over from their respective lanes. Finally got to the point of installing MSI AB and I now have two cards running within a few degrees of each other :D (Vapor-X has two fans, so I thought it would be better to face this towards the Ice-Q instead) and managed to get to 1100/1250 with 1150 volts. This setting did make Valley benchmark stutter slightly so I backed off down to a previously acceptable 1050/1250 at stock volts (this strangely enough gave me a higher bench score) I haven't bothered playing with the memory clocks as I am happy to go with iit as it is for now.

The only weird thing is that Valley is misreporting my GPU's at the save screen at the end, it shows a 7950 and the Intel HD3000 but another benchmark I did with different speeds, showed it correctly (2x7950's) AB showed on both occasions 2x7950 GPU's with almost identical usage across GPU 1 and GPU 2. So it must be just a glitch.

Great guide fella, thanks for that, now I just need to re-download BF4 and give it a bash in-game :p

If you've not touched it, it won't be unlocked. So assuming this is a fresh driver install, leave it alone. If you've used it previously, lock it and use afterburner for overclocking.

It''s a new card 7950 with fresh driver / ccc install.

I never used CCC on my 5850 just afterburner. What do you mean by it wont be unlocked?

So can I not untick the enable overdrive and use afterburner, is there something I'm missing here?

Slipperz :)

The news every one wanted to hear!! Msi Afterburner Overlay to get 64bit support, will work with Battlefield 4!! OMGWTFBBQ

On 64-bit RTSS:

I'm currently analyzing the way which can satisfy most of us. I'm going to offer MSI to invest month of development time on 64-bit server development then make it exclusively available for MSI Afterburner OSD display only. For MSI it looks like much more attractive selling point, because MSI's OSD takes an advantage and no RT-based products I develop for other vendors will have support for it. For me it means that I can safely cancel all other tasks and focus on this task without loosing my income during development time. And for you it means that 64-bit OSD will be available least in Afterburner.

Is my AMD hd 7970 voltage locked? Can't control voltage, and I tick allow voltage control:confused:
I thought gigabyte,xfx,sapphire... locked voltage control on theirs cards.
Did amd lock their cards as well later in production cycle?
Will I need to flash bios to gain control on voltage?
ta

Fantastic post. Is it still relevant for my 7950? Or has anything changed since then?

Still relevant.
