***AMD Kaveri APU quick look***

Kaveri was meant to be a 3 module CPU according to earlier AMD documents.

I wander if they may introduce some more Kaveri chips later on? A 3 module chip would have pretty awesome multi-threaded performance, W Mantle could be very impressive. I'm gonna hold out for a while before upgrading our 5800K PC, either for a price drop on the 7850K or hopefully some newer 7XXX chips..

Is your i7 and 780Ti system broken or something?

Nothing wrong with the i7, the game is quite demanding as it's well mentioned on the Warframe forums, the game is capped at 60fps, but occassionally the i7 will drop to ~45fps, and i'm getting a similar performance using the a10-7850k, which also runs mostly at 60fps with the same settings (minus the PhysX candy). The i7 is in an ITX case with a Corsair H60 cooler which when gaming on Warframe blows warm air, the 780GTXti is running at 80'c! I just think at 1920x1080 the i7 is overkill, maybe more suitable to 4k or Tri-monitor.

Just been playing CoD Ghosts at medium settings/1080p.

I've been an Intel chip user since QX6700 (before that I had FX62,4200x2,FX55,2400xp & 850 Thunderbird) and i've got to take my hat off to AMD, this little system i've put together is superb and i'm happy gaming on it...I may well sell off the i7 rigs or just one for HD video conversion

Mini-ITX_HTPC-behuizing_van_SilverStone_Milo_ML05_-_kopie.jpg

I had to find an online pic....

Here's what i've used...

Milo case
Gigabyte A88 ITX mobo
2x4Gb 2400mhz RAM C10
A10-7850k (obviously!)
Nero LX Cooler (modified)
Corsair SP120mm fan (blowing up&out, not down&in)
120Gb SSD - Boot
2Tb 2.5'' - Steam account

When i had the 6800k installed, i had the fan blowing down, this trapped a lot of warm air inside, i put a 50mm side fan to extract, but still got quite warm. Also, the harddrive rack is behind the Silverstone badge, these was also getting quite warm. Having the fan blow out, keeps the case & the CPU a lot cooler and don't need to have a second fan installed.

See, I'd been looking at the Milo ML04 for a case, but that one is pretty much half the size! Now I'm torn between the two.

Advantage of going with the bigger one is cost-saving from using standard ATX psu, full size optical drive, and mATX, which makes it easier to find a suitable AMD board.

Yes, you need the smaller PSU (Micro-ATX), which are between £17-70! There is a slot for a slim optical drive, but mine is a disc-less system (Steam mainly) and it would seriously interfere with the overhead cooling...i can't complain about the Gigabyte board (yet!)

Sweet little build pbrain. What was the total cost? And what mods did you need to do to the cooler?

Originally I bought a Asrock 75 ITX & 6800k and i couldn't get it to run 2400mhz RAM (best was 1866), so I changed it to the Gigabyte 85 ITX (identical to the 88 ITX), problem was the board layout was rotated and the Nero LX what just about fitted on the Asrock, wouldn't fit on the Gigabyte (unless I used low-profile RAM). So i ended up grinding around 30mm off the one side of the cooler to allow the RAM to fit. This lead to another problem...the part that is missing was also used to clamp the fan on! Luckily, the Milo case has an overhead section above the motherboard to fit a 120mm fan, i tried various fans and settled for the Corsair SP120 (little pricy but shifts plenty of air). The best cooling solution for the A6800k was dropping the vcore down to 1.25v, that knocked nearly 10'c off...it was stable at that and i had no problem gaming.
