AMD "Never Settle" 12.11 Driver - benchmarks

Do we have a dedicated topic for discussing 3D yet?

Not calling people out for derailing the thread, but I would like to find a dedicated topic which I can join the discussion, as I'm quite tempted to go 3D as well. Tommy already gave me some helpful advise, but would like to read more before making the jump...have to decide on monitor, or even potential graphic upgrade etc.

Good result here. Extra 5fps on Heaven despite my card being clocked 5MHz lower on the GPU than I did the last time I ran this benchmark.

Tommy, thanks for sending me that bios. Sadly it didnt work, the card still wont fully clock down but at least i have a ghz edition card now. :D

I have one more trick up my sleeve, reinstall drivers. Maybe that will make the idle clocks work with the ghz edition bios, after all i flashed the bios after installing the drivers. Will report back.

Just tested these on bf3, the gains are beyond huge. You barely need to overclock the core anymore, concentrate on the memory to help with the x4 MSAA.

Well I just had a quick go on BF3 CQ with the 12.11 beta's and they seem great with my 7870.....solid 60fps on ULTRA 4X AA at 1650 x 1050...........saying that not sure what it was before.....

These drivers allow you to run much lower core overclocks on bf3 and still get much higher fps, now you can focus on pushing the memory higher to cope with the deferred AA @x4 instead. The results are beyond impressive.

Anyway, because of the idle clock problem ive rolled back to the 12.9 beta until the hotfix driver is released, i love my low idle clocks/low power usage when idle.

Can't wait to try these out properly in time though.

did you click defaults in ccc/overdrive? ivehad to do that a few times to get the idle clocks to work/kick in

Yes, however ive now found a work around for AMD 7xxx reference users until the hotfix driver is released.

You can actually set the proper idle clocks in CCC, click apply and suddenly it remembers the idle voltage/clocks. Its not ideal but its better than before. There might even be a way to save it as a profile in CCC, which you can trigger by pressing a hotkey or something. Trying to figure that out now.

Does anyone know how to create and save a profile in ccc that remembers overdrive settings?

Ok enough of my grinning.

While in the overdrive tab and after you have hit Apply, open presets, Add Preset and give it a name and hotkey if you like and you can Invoke it from the system tray menu.

Whoa, I never usually expect any performance increase when upgrading drivers, I just do it to stay updated. But I just installed these and ran 3D MARK 11 and jumped from 8050 marks using 12.8 to 8955 marks with these drivers.

Battlefield 3 feels a lot smoother aswell, roughly 10fps increase.

You beauty.

However the hotkey is not working, nor is when i select it from the system tray, only when i open up CCC and click the actual preset?

You got anything else running hot keys it may be a conflict, also I don't know whether you saw my post I did a backup of my bios, but as you tried one I don't know whether you want to try my one, but if you do it's waiting.

Have you tried just going to AppData and just editing the profile Want 0 state to whatever idle clocks you want?

1. Close CCC. Open up task manager.
2. Go to the Process Tab and end CCC.exe and MOM.exe and any other process related to CCC or ATI
3. Make sure you can see hidden files and go to the following directory, C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\profiles .xml and open it using notepad
4. Look for :
name="CoreClockTarget....."
<Property name="Want_0" value="x0000" /> (x0000 is your idle-state core clock.)
5. Change it to whatever you want.
6. Further down will be MemoryClockTarget, the Want_0 state is the idle memory clock.
7. Change it to whatever you want.
8. Save.
9. Fire up CCC, your idle clocks should now be whatever you set.

Nevermind i got it working, just had to setup a hotkey. Yes, for the love of god yes it works perfectly.

I guess i should spread the word and distribute the fix to the masses, but part of me thinks sod them spent hours already on this lets get gaming! Its every man for himself in this world!

Hmm, very strange.

Could be a bug in the beta, try doing it all again.

Funny as i just rewrote what i was going to say as i originally wrote that the hotkey could be down to user error.

Yes the same situation with me yesterday that i wrote to you in the other forum and i said you can do the rest as im feeling lazy now
