ok beavis and butthead, share the joke :)

well, if a "price drop" has happened...the CPU's prolly doesn't perform that well as the earlier batch/stepping.. :p
They guys at OcUK sure knows how to squeeze out the value.

that doesnt really make sense,

if there was a price drop, its probablly because there were new CPU's that came out ie the 175 and 180's

It makes perfectly sense,...the price has gone down to decent level..before it was jacked up due to the performance of the particular stepping.
...we will find out as soon as the latest priced batch are hitting ppl's motherboards..

Just bought one of these, hopefully it will be dispatched tomorrow.

Not from OCUK though, from a competitor.

Will let you guys know when it arrives, then you can help me out with what the steppings mean :p

I'm tempted to get one of these Optys' as they sound like good clockers, but what's this about some sort of cold boot bug I've heard about with them?

If your using Phase cooling stay far, far away from the optys. They have a horrific cold bug! - Go for a X4400 instead.

If your using air or water, then go for an opty. It'll do you proud!!

Agent.

I'm not a big overclocker (seen too many people kill stuff trying to overclock it) but do the Opertrons still perform better then the x2's at stock speeds?

It depends on clock speed an cache at stock.

the 165 is 1.8ghz performing very similar to the x2 3800 that runs at 2.ghz.Because of the cache.

If you are not overclocking then get the fastest cpu you can afford.

Well, I'm on air (XP90C) with my current X2 4400+.
But it doesn't even seem to want to do 2.5ghz. :(

Are the 170's almost guaranteed to do 2.5ghz on air?

Might trade the X2 in if I can get better clocks.

In my experience with 170's the last one I had did 2.6ghz but 1.475 vcore

My current opty does 2.7ghz on stock vcore 1.3v.

But I would have thought that 2.6ghz is not out of the question with all 170's

Thanks i was gonna get a X2 4400+ but im prolly gonna get a Opertron 170, I've also been looking at the 175... is it worth the extra £80 over the 170?
