AMD orders HUGE price cut on FX-9590 – Game on!

It would be good news for everybody if AMD can come up with something that can beat the i7s at their own game.

The CPU market has gone hardly anywhere in the last 3 or 4 years.

If an i7 920 came with integrated graphics (and overclocked) it would be hard for people running it to tell the difference between it and the modern i7s.

Come on AMD make intel work for our money.

Yes my old 920 is still kicking ass, know what for it --> DG.:p

You can hardly have a go at them for cutting the price. That makes no sense.

As for cost, people pay out hundreds for a Titan that's barely faster than an overclocked 780. This is £150 more than the 8350 and is guaranteed to reach 5GHz on a good air cooler, which an 8350 generally can't do. At £250 it would be a very good CPU if you do things that do very well on Piledriver (like rendering and video encoding).

It's more the fact that it's so much and so soon after release really. We all know tech goes down after a while but their's a limit to what can be stomached

edit - Released last month!!!!!!!!! Jesus. Will hardly encourage anyone with half a braincell to go AMD

Jim keller (Athlon XP architect) is back at AMD's CPU department now to kick it back into shape and pull a few heads off.....

He's forgiven for deserting to Apple and more than welcome back, now he just needs to get to work on fixing AMD's CPU's.

This could be good news. Probably not in the very near future but promising. Also, they need to bring back horse breeds.

Agreed, we need competition!!
Indeed.

I think despite some people (AMD systems users in particular) keep calling others Intel fanboys for saying the current AMD FX lines getting rear handed to them on gaming performance comparing even the i5 K-Edition CPUs, what they failed to realise is the very "Intel fanboys" they referring to are probably the ones who want to see AMD bring back some serious competition, or even kick Intel in the rear like back in the Athlon 64 vs Pentium 4 days...

Seriously...people need to keep deluding themselves thinking the Piledriver are as good as i5 or even i7 on gaming performance by hiding everything behind GPU bottleneck.

I totally agree..

I would much rather have an expensive 2500k/3570k/4670k than any 8-core AMD chip just because i know i'll get better value form the intel offering..

I'm no fan boy, i had a Phenom II back in the day, i just feel rightly/wrongly that intel have competition at the moment..

This is good but its still priced to high vs the 4770K IMO, and as they are not going to be selling these at a loss it's basically an admission that they were trying to rip consumers off by like £300 or whatnot.

Will be interesting to see what this does to FX9370 prices though.

I really wish AMD would get their act together and start offering some real competition.
It wasn't so very long ago most of us were on amd 4000+ 64's, and intel were struggling to catch up...

To be fair the reason for that wasn't due to AMD jumping over Intel or anything, it was due to Intel overestimating how good Netburst would scale and so the Pentium 4's started running out of steam fast and cache/FSB/HT/etc had to be tweaked for any gains (Core2 and i3/5/7 CPU's descend from PIII arch not P4).

This time round its AMD stuck polishing the turd.

What goes around comes around mate ;)

Being a right AMD fan boy even I can't warrant changing my current 2700k for one of these lol!.

Once the new consoles come out and coders actually start taking proper advantage of multi-threading I'd like to think that AMD will be in a better position to compete with intel on the gaming front.....one can only hope :)

I just noticed the FX6300 has dipped below £90, now that is good value.

At £199 I would have been tempted to go 5GHz 8 core, but not when I have a 4.75GHz one already :)

Don't forget AMD are cherry picking the 8350 for quite a while to get the Best One's for 5 or 4.7ghz, so getting a good 8350 is not looking good.

But don't forget, its already set to run at 4.7ghz / 5ghz, so very little to be done in the Bios if any. I would buy a 4.7ghz no bother at all and my son's thinking about a new build and its one of his choice's.
