AMD orders HUGE price cut on FX-9590 – Game on!

Indeed.

I think despite some people (AMD systems users in particular) keep calling others Intel fanboys for saying the current AMD FX lines getting rear handed to them on gaming performance comparing even the i5 K-Edition CPUs, what they failed to realise is the very "Intel fanboys" they referring to are probably the ones who want to see AMD bring back some serious competition, or even kick Intel in the rear like back in the Athlon 64 vs Pentium 4 days...

Seriously...people need to keep deluding themselves thinking the Piledriver are as good as i5 or even i7 on gaming performance by hiding everything behind GPU bottleneck.

You can count me in the group. I want to see AMD make a fist of it but all to often the numbers don't add up, and if they do they have been fudged in AMD's favor. These days Intel just make better hardware, I'll include the motherboard chipsets in that too.

I would really love some competition from AMD too but my last chip was a 3800+ that I clocked the nuts off!!

Unfortunately with them ending the FX line I think they're going to completely remove themselves from the enthusiast market and that's a real shame, considering the great recent history :(

I would like them trade blow for blow in benchmarks/real world apps etc.. And then look forward to a pricing war!! Cheap/cheaper CPUs :-)

Yeah right. Prices don't come down. You get price wars that go up. Those that can't sell or want rid of stock, the prices come down, no matter what it is.

I want what he's smoking :D

I think Areks long lost brother has found the forums

I'm off to hug my computer.

Lol!

Those are all in excess of 120 fps. All those charts show is that nobody needs faster at 720p, not even those with high refresh rate screens. It's getting beaten in a way that makes no difference at all in real life.

In the same games at 1080p the only significant difference is in Skyrim, which I will say it does get smashed in.

Still not saying I'd buy one, but anyone saying "it's a turd" or that it gets destroyed in games needs to actually look at the charts. It's the fastest chip at this price point overall (overclocking not included).

Most people have vsync on anyway. Most people's views I've read, if they get solid 60 it's all they care about.

The power usage is crazy high. I remember the good old Athlon days. I wish AMD could bring that kind of competition back to the market.

As far as I am aware they have not released any real confirmation to this. They may or may not. If they are ending the FX line I would expect they make better CPUs with no GPU on the FM2+ etc socket rather than AM3+ (bit like the AMD Athlon on FM2).

They could very well go ahead anyways and release a FX CPU since it's not confirmed that they are not to my knowledge and many are anticipating it's release. With the new 8 core consoles wouldn't it be a good marketing move for their 8 core processors to say that they are proudly powering the new gaming consoles and would be your number one choice for a gaming machine? It seems like a good move to release the new FX generation. :) Maybe just change the name to avoid the negative reviews or something from the 'olden' FX processors, the Bulldozer mostly.

I also vaguely recall the Piledrivers selling 'better than expected' on a few articles somewhere, but I can't find them when Googling :(. I guess I can't even be sure they exist :p

I hope they do end the FX line, then replace it with somewthing better. We do need competition, so hopefully they make something worth competing against.

To be fair, at its price, the 9370 isn't so bad, its essentially £100 less than a 4770k. If you could over clock it to match the 9590, then its quite a powerful CPU depending on the application, and matched with a decent GPU will provide good performance in games. Just a shame about the power consumption and heat.

But then you could just get an FX8320 even cheaper and get pretty much the same performance.

Because the FX8's are pretty much hitting this performance already, I just don't see the point, if you could run the FX9's on stock coolers and any board, then it'd be somewhat impressive, but it's not, by the time you've bought the FX95 set up, you're in 4770K money.

Is the 8320 the one to get from AMD now? What about the 50? Honest question, haven't been keeping up to date with AMD CPU's for a while. Do they clock well?

The FX8320 is pretty unbeatable price/performance, and has been since its launch.
The FX8350 is still a decent price/performance CPU, but it's too close to the 3570K for me.

Yes. In terms of bang for buck it's excellent. Most clock very well. Had mine since last november and it's been an excellent chip. While it may be a few fps slower than intel in quite a few games it's not so much that I think I would have noticed.

mnc fear ye cause You will have socket that in theory should take next CPU. Low power consumption and all other nice stuff.
