AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

Oh for gods sake, he made a mistake, it happens, he is not infallible, contrary to what he might have you believe, the way the circling of the wagons happens when ever he gets called out on a error is ridiculous.

I did also point out that he wasn't the only one to say that $329 their current pricing.

You are taking what he said out of context, he said the 390 is the lowest priced VR ready part. Not that 329 was the lowest price of that part. Yes there is ONE a reasonable amount bellow, but the majority are around the 329 price bracket which they stated, which in turn ends up as the avg price for that part.

And its not a matter of as you say 'circling the wagon' it happens far to often and people jump on what he says the moment he leaves a message.

What! have you even looked at that link, the re is 27 cards listed and 11
of them are under the £329 price point.

Let's not let trivialities like 'truth' get caught up in this discussion man.

And sorry, when people try and paint themselves as authorities on matters and never ever admit when they are so clearly wrong, they open themselves up to these things and fully deserve the ribbing for it. There's nothing to gain by letting people conserve their unjustified ego.

What does the current price set by random retailers got to do with RRP (Recommended Retail Price) set by AMD last year? As gpu's age, most retailers will reduce prices to sell them or to clear stock.

The fact is that it doesn't matter if some retailers are selling below $329.
The whole issue seems to be that some say that AMD has stated pricing for Polaris in the slide. That theory can be easily disproven by looking at RRP of the current lowest tier VR capable card which is the 390 @ $329, which is the low end of the price range mentioned in the slide for VR capable cards.

If AMD are truly serious about their aim to increase the Total Addressable MArket for VR then they have to release a 390 level Polaris for around the $200-$250 mark. Common sense says that AMD will not release a Polaris with 390 level performance for the same price as the 390.

The only reason it is relevant is because it was the link that DM provided to prove his point, that would be this link

Notice the start of the link, yup it is AMD's own website, they list on their own site a 390 for $279 and yet certain people on here keep arguing that the current price is $329.

Now the MSRP might very well be £329 but the current price is what you can get them for now, not when they launched, and AMD themselves on their own site say $279 and you can probably get them for cheaper elsewhere.

DM made a simple mistake, while suggesting that other people were wrong and it was common sense, I merely pointed out the fact and the DM defense league has turned it into a massive thing.

The main argument was about the slide linked below and whether it was listing Polaris prices or current gen. It was pretty obvious to most of us that it was the current cards. A quick google of the 390 launch price showed me $329.99 and another quick good of the Fury X showed that it was $650 at launch.

Dm's link might not have shown this but it was obvious enough what he was getting at. Bru pulled him up with a disclaimer about not trying to cause an argument but that's exactly what happened :D:D:D.

Now can we move on as that pretty much sums it up :D:D:D.

I thought when DM wrote "current cards", they were simply meaning "current generation of cards". In which case, given that AMD had to have been using MSRP and not including special offers and discounts from third party sellers, it made sense to me. At worst it is an unclear / ambiguous post, isn't it?

EDIT: You're both very clever people, let's move on until we replace the English language with a mathematically precise alternative. :)

Just because one is priced exceptionally lower than the others does not mean that is the price of that part, it just happens to be an outlier. That is like saying a car being at one dealer for a lower price means that all of them are that price.

The price for the majority of them still averages at the $329 mark.

How big a gap do you think there will be between Vega and Polaris?

Is Vega going to release and only be a 1080 competitor or will it spank that and be a GP100 competitor?

why does everyone assume that vega is a single GPU ? why wouldn't they do like polaris and release 2 GPUs, a high-end with GDDR5X to compate with the 1080 at Q4, and an enthusiast with HBM2 and to compete with Ti in H1 2017, nothing stoping them from making 2 different size chips of vega.

Good idea, lets get back to Polaris rather than DM's simple error.

I do expect Vega to be a couple of GPU's maybe even more with full and salvaged parts.

AMD don't sell GPU's directly, if you click on the Orange box it will take you to what retailers are selling them at the listed price.
