AMD Polaris architecture – GCN 4.0

Just been meandering around the Pascal threads and spotted a post that is claiming that a leak of info states that the Gigabyte version of the 1080 (GTX 1080 Gaming G1) can reach up to 2.4Ghz.

Now that is fairly impressive, especially if they do come in @ $599 and not $699.

Now before you all flame me for coming into an AMD thread and saying this....please read on...

What some of those posters in the Pascal thread either didnt mention, didn't see or just completely ignored (take your pick)....was the info on the R9 470X that was below it (Actually the Headline of the actual piece was about the 470X NOT the 1080). Oh this was translated from Chinese so bear with it.

So we have the R9 470X with roughly equivalent performance between 380/380X and this comes in at 60W TDP with no power connectors so powered through the PCIe bus for 1,100 Yuan (Yes, I did the exchange rate for you) = £117 (Not sure if this is without taxes/Vat or whatever though). Not bad performance per £ considering the current 380/X is still selling on OCUK for between £158.99 - £199.99 and needs minimum 2x 6pin power connector.

Link is here http://www.ithome.com/html/digi/225244.htm

also more interesting info here on P10/P11 http://videocardz.com/59903/possible-polaris-10-and-polaris-11-specifications-emerge

Oh and just to let you know the exchange rate on the GTX1080 came in at approx £575
:)

I [osted the link in the pascal thread, I saw the 470 in the article but didn't post anything because:
A) It was a pascl thread
B) I don't read Chinese and wasn't sure what is was saying exactly
C) What it seem to be saying is allow the same lines as the rest of the rumours. 470 at 380-380X speed is what has been speculated for weeks now.

For gaming it is a non contest, Fury X wins easy.

Yes now, but i was talking about when it launched. :)

Did I not post a launch review where the fury X soundly beats the 980 in every test. Loadsa I always used to think all these remarks were just you having a laugh because of the million times you jumped in to mention overclockers dream and this is about the thousanth time youv stated that the furyx is equal to 980 etc etc but as time goes on the more annoying it gets.

and i just showed a one that had the 980 beating it, and trading blows with it, and even doing the same at 4k, and that wasn't the only review :)

that is a classic AMD problem. Optimize drivers to such an extent that they close the performance gap or even take the lead - just when nvidia launching the next generation and no one cares.

The FuryX performance is now reasonable, but who on earth will buy one when you can get a 1080 that will whip its ass with twice the memory to boot.

Was made even worse when Nvidia dropped the 980Tis price to below it, as thats got more memory, and smashed it.

They were a massive fail, you couldn't get hold of a one for months and months, they were too expensive, they had a pump whine problem etc...

Omg are you for real?

The one game that the 980 wins in that review was a driving game where both cards are over 110fps anyway so who cares. Everything else the furyx was ahead by miles. So that makes them competitors did it?
As for the 4k well sorry but any review that has a 970 4fps behind a titan X in gta4 is dismissed for me.

I

The Fury X was pretty much in between the 980 and 980 Ti on release, in game performance (faster than the 980 in almost everything but slower than the 980Ti in almost everything).

To say it was trading blows with a 980 is pretty disingenuous to be honest.

Doesn't matter if they were both getting over 110fps, the 980 was still faster than it.

I showed a review where it was in some, even at 4K, and as i said, that was not the only review that showed it trading blows with it either in some games :)

Yea real selling point for a card. We can do 115fps and not a measly 110. Beam me up Scotty.

Of course it's going to trade in one or two games. A 390 sometimes beats a 980. Strange you haven't mentioned so because by your logic that means they are competitors.

It shouldn't have been trading blows with the 980, it should have beaten it across the board, considering it came out over a year later, even Nvidia themselves beat it before the Furys were released, long before, and twice.

It was supposed to have been a Titan X killer, it shouldn't have been trading blows with the 980, it should have beaten it across the board.

Titan X supposed to have been a halo cards, it shouldn't have been trading blows with 390x, it should have beaten it across the board

Hmm this is easier then i thought. :)

I would say the top 6 cards on that graph are all bottlenecked.

A Fury X for example should be more than a single frame faster than a Fury P.

I was talking about when the hyped Titan X killer Fury launched, it was trading blows with the 980, some were saying no it wasn't, so i showed it was :)

It was way over hyped, even i got caught up in it, but i'll not be making the same mistake this time with Polaris :p

Id love it if AMD came out with a killer card, i just can't see it now :(

I thought it would be a 75w TDP card. But 60w TDP? That means it's 40% to 70% faster than the bus powered GTX950 while having a 20% lower TDP.

That makes Polaris 11 more a GTX750TI level card in terms of TDP and the R7 360E and GTX750 had similar TDPs and consumed roughly the same amount of power too.

Polaris 10 might be quicker than a R9 390X if this is the case.
