Amd Price cuts

I don't really want to get into this battle, but I have seen many people refer to GTX 680 having better/more features - what are these features please?

Yes, it's overall faster, yes it seems to draw less power for the most part, but what can it do that the 79xx can't?

sell ;)

I don't understand all the furore over dynamic overclocking at least it's guaranteed by NVidia, the fact is that if you buy a 7970 and it won't overclock 50mhz over stock there's nothing you can do about it. I'm sure AMD will come out with their own turbo for the next generation, they already have such technology in their CPU's.

Stock 680 (auto oc) > 7970

7970 OC > Stock 680 (auto oc)

680 OC > 7970 OC

now considering diff cards clock differently (including third party cards) and taking into account prices may start dropping throughout these weeks...as a consumer what would be best to buy for 1080p gaming ...and which would be more futurerproof?

(im a dumb noob)

*EDIT* lol i finished reading what you had to say...i know the answer thanks (drunken master)...hoping i have a gfx card by may 15 though :P

The new AA method stands out in my mind.
Image quality of 16AA with the performance hit of 2AA.

Another reviewer who didn't figure out that the 680 is dynamically overclocking itself to win. But when the 7970 is overclocked and it becomes fair. Well, it wins.

I'm sure they will drop in price. But, I'm also sure AMD will have Tenerife out soon and it'll be overclocked to hell.

I couldnt care less about the dynamic overclocking, Nvidias mid range architecture for this generation is outperforming AMDs high end.

CPUs also have turboboost features and have had for a long time, no one uses that as an excuse for why one CPU outperforms another.

No. Because what usually happens is some one with some brain cells will disable Turbo boost and then overclock the CPU and judge it on what it does then.

Yet all of this has been ignored and forgotten since the 680 was released.

Amazing.

Stock high end, don't you mean?

That's gravy if you're not an overclocker... which is weird to say on an overclocking site.

Again will you stop spewing up this garbage. The gtx680 is nvidias highend. The gk112 has always been said to come at the end of this year. We all know that amd will have something else to compete with that. The gk104 is nvidias highest performing part that they have to release at this moment. Not some made up part that is not ready for release.

If this card is mid range I would hate to think what their going to charge for top end.

They will charge the same as its not out until the end of the year. All these people that think the gtx680 is mid range are having a laugh. Its only mid range performance when the gtx780 arrives at the end of the year like its always been rumoured too. It is a mid range kepler part but its still nvidias best which makes it high end at this point in time.

I totally agree with you.Everyone is saying this is mid range but there is no proof this is true. It`s just a very power efficient card

+1 This.

People seem to forget their already 3 months late so they should probably be improved upon even from original design, what would the good in the 'real' 680 being out in ~Sept when 8970 could be out by then?

They probably always guessed GK110 would be late and made plenty of mid-high chips to cover their asses and costs.

I may sound biased but don't get me wrong, if the 'real' 680/actual 780 was better overall than 8970 I'd get it and vice versa.

however the 7970 can be had for close to £370 whereas the GTX 680 I haven't seen for under £400.

Stop with the bullcrap:

The GTX 680 was only just launched today. Its current price is higher than it will be in a few weeks time.

The AMD defense team needs to find a corner to sit in and cry their hearts out over how unbelievably beat the red team is over the green team in this, and also both the last 5 or 6 generations of hardware :D

Apart from the 2gb ram and the low memory bandwidth and terrible directcompute performance and all of that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ....... Oh HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ...... oh HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA .........

Surely this should have a ripple effect and in turn reduce the 7800 a bit? A 7870 won't seem so attractive (not that it did anyway) when a 7950 is only 30 odd quid more?
