AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

All I know about ACC is that if you put it to +2 for cores with less head room that is a good thing... I read that 'unleash the dragon' doc.:p

Is there any way of changing the speed of individual cores in the bios? I dont fancy starting trying to us overdrive now I have used BIOS for everything else.

Also does any one know what the cpu vdda voltage is?

Thanks for your feedback Big.Wayne. :D I'll keep working. I think maybe reducing ram timings is next. Dont know much about that yet though. Also got to work on going a bit further with my IGP. Thanks for the screen of the day as well! Not sure if it is sad to be proud of that. My gf had to pretend to be impressed.

What are other people's benchmark scores like? I dont seem to be doing too well compared to some of the ones in the benchmarking thread... SuperPi 1M in 10 seconds etc!

not even touched memory yet :D just trying to get this 4.0 stable first then if i can move on to that.

will recrop the pictures when get chance

P.s: I'm still not sure if Super-PI is a good test to demonstrate these chips as that software is *optimised* for Intel® processors, can we come up with a better test to showcase these chips please?

It is optimised for Intel but it's not a bad way to compare Phenom vs phenom. It seems to give fairly predicable gains for overclocks.

What would you suggest? It needs to be free and not influenced much by other hardware like GPU.

WPrime? Cinebench?

Gave it another go today messed around all day with different settings and these are what gives me a good all round speed increase, keeps temps and voltages in a safe range and is stable, passes Intel Burn test and has been running Prime95 for the past 15-20 mins.

The room temp is around 25c.

The CPU is a Phenom II X2 550 BE despite what CPUZ says :)

EGuitarStar! Someone else who didnt make it to 4 cores with their 550. Makes me feel a bit better.

Everyone else here seems to be insanely lucky.

Ahhhh... SuperPi is "optimised for intel" That explains a lot on the superpi + Fchess benchmarking thread.

super pi is more optimised for Integer ops, that was always the case.

When the pentium M came out it was optimised for int ops and crushed even P4s and the current core 2 is a derrivative of that, as is the i7, so its not surprising.

Neither was really optimised for the other.

well my chip is hitting the limit @ 61c and causing thermal slowdown. Anyones experience with a h50-1? Im tempted to get one to replace by mugen2!

Afaik the only way to adjust the speed of each core separately is by using AMD Overdrive? . . . if you have made good progress with your clocks and done some Prime95 stability tests then you deserve some time-out and maybe do some gaming etc :)

Good luck with the 4GHz stability run, many have died trying! . . . may the force be with you! :p

How about we try CineBench 10 as well as Fritz, that is evenly optimised afaik, the one bit of software that would also be great but I don't think is free and that would be Everest as it really shows off the fantastic *low* latency these AMD systems offer . . .

Off Topic Chip Used but screenie is still relavant!

Those AMD® Phenom™ II X2 550 BE results look very good to me, good work and nice screen! . . . get some gaming done and see how the system holds up! :)

Hehe, you win some and you lose some, my chip didn't unlock yet but such is life! . . . I'm still over the moon with the performance regardless, get some gaming done and I'm sure you will be please again! :D

Seem to be stuck at 19x200@ 1.5V or 18x205@ Stock Volts, although after trying 18x210 it died but  when I got back into windows I have some missing icons in the bottom right of the task bar.

Even the Network icon is gone and I can't adjust the audio slider lol.:p

I assume it's corrupted something while using the AMD OD so be warned, again.

Big.Wayne it appears that CPU-Z lies, well I think, I used Everest and Core Temp to compare and these two match what I set in the AMD OD, so it's a 3 v 1 situation against CPUZ for me.

I'll be ordering a cooler in the next week and will do some hard Prime Blend, hopefully @ [email protected], 1.3NB.

Stock cooler is for stock  although there's nothing wrong with this at stock.

Slightly off topic Big.Wayne do you use the VIA HD sound and if so does it always give a little feedback before a sound is played, for e.g your typing away with MSN in background only you recieve a message but before the jingle is played there's a popping feeback noise, almost as if the Audio has been asleep and woken up. Although I did install Realtek HD audio first without realing VIA HD audio existed, so that might be my problem there. I've did uninstall the Realtek prior to VIA installation but you never know, seems like I'm in for a re-install of windows to get my icons back anyway so hopefully if this isn't a common problem it and will be cured too.

Elfmeister, You may have corrupted your O/S install . . . .reset to stock and check . . .it's always good practice to have a nice backup of the O/S in case it all goes Pete Tong

Off Topic:
Yes I use the onboard audio, works perfectly well and no hiss/cracks/pops etc . . . I did have a issue with the front panel connectors and a hissy sound but i think this is my case, regardless if the headphones are connected to the rear I/O part everything is mint! :)

im not lucky lol, i bought it off a chap who had unlocked it with 8hour prime results on the bay, i paid a handsome 100 quid so didnt get too lucky lol :D

My crashes are weird. On my old CPU (3800 Venice) I used to get blue screens when going too far but on this 965 I get grey vertical bars and then the screen flashes different colours.I have a 5770 vapour x.
I have not had a blue screen yet, is this caused by the graphics driver rather than an unstable system ?

I don't think it's GPU related but I know what you mean, on my old C2D the thing would just lock up on windows and I only realise it crashed when I couldn't move the mouse cursor, so on this I guess it's the Phenoms way.
