AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

The chips seem to be getting better and better. Time was you were a crazy lucky bugger if you could get anything above 3.8. 4 seems to be the standard now.

yeah newer chips seem better than old ones but some are only doing small bench runs i see.

do 20 runs ibt not 5 ;) i can pass a 5 run at past 4 but i dont consider 5 nothing

What would you guys recommend as the max overclock on the stock AMD cooler for a X2 555? I dont want a crazy overclock i'm just curious if it's advisible to overclock at all with the stock cooler even by .10 or .20 increments for example

Is the stock cooler the one with heat pipes or not ??

From what I remember from installing it, it's just the standard heatsink grills unfortunately, i'm thinking about buying a fairly priced CPU Cooler just to overclock it a bit and make it a bit quieter when it's under load, I guess that will be the better way to go about it?

Hyper 212+ for £15...

I just picked up a xigmatek hdt s963 for £11 delivered from the bay if your case is a little on teh smaller size otherwise the hyper 212+ is a better bet especially for £15

It's a Zalman z7 plus so the Hyper 212+ should hopefully fit fine, and for £15 it sounds like a great deal, I think i'll be picking that up thank you :)

With the stock fan?

That's not too shabby at all - still got 4'c to play with :)

Wonder what it's like with other fans? 2000rpm can be noisy :p (How does it compare to the stock fan noise wise?)

Sorry for the millions of questions!

Cant hear the fan even under load with the stock fan, It hit 58.c as I was running prime and burn test together. With just prime it Just about gets to 52.C.. My case has quite good airflow with 3 120mm fans surrounding the cpu..

So my overclock from post 2344 has just gone completely unstable. It was rock solid for over a week (have been using it for encoding pretty heavily) and then suddenly it is BSODing in normal web browsing etc. Crashes after only a minute or so of Prime. Not changed any settings at all.

Any ideas? Why would that happen? Gutted.

No BIOS flash. Not installed anything new. Just a couple of video encoding programs (I was trying to get a decent setting for videos on my e71) but I would not have thought that would screw it up.

I put the settings back to stock and it seemed fine. I have just rebooted and put the OC settings back on again. Currently priming. Seems okay so far.

Would resetting CMOS be better do you think?
