AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

joewm18 you have not knackered the mobo. Try to clear the CMOS first. Switch of the PSU, remove the battery, and short the CMOS reset jumper for a good 10-15 seconds. Pop the battery back in, flip the PSU switch back on and try turning it on.

If that doesn't work then try booting up with no RAM installed. If that doesn't work then popping out the CPU and putting it back again should do it. (annoying, I know)

In the future, when trying to unlock cores DO NOT start from an overclocked profile. Go into BIOS and load optimized defaults and then try unlocking.

Thanks gurusan, oh I forget about Windows 7! :o . . . . what I need is like the image above but with Windows shadows tuned off *and* a gap between the two windows (on a white background) left hand tab being the active window! :D

a virtual clone of this . . . email me .bmp direct to save hassle!

Cheers gurusan I'll do that when I next get the time, I think curiosity killed the cat on this occasion! I was running out of settings to mess with, lesson learned I won't be touching that 1 again!

Here's my Phenom II 965 turned into a dual core. I can probably go further, perhaps 4.4GHZ or whatever..
What's interesting is the Core temp name branding. I'm sure my 3rd core is my weakest, thus I can't get 4.2GHZ as either a tri or a quad.

Hey Martini1991,

nice clock, any Prime Blend? . . . . I wonder, you could do some testing changing the cores from x2/x3/x4 and do some benching? :)

As the chip has level three cache don't post it in the AII thread . . . CPU-z didn't get the name right . .

It was more curiosity than find a stable clock lol.
Once I'm not bogged down with coursework, I'll be able to 8 hour prime test (I was in NZ for 3 weeks and got majorly behind).
I won't post it in the AII thread, I'll try for 4.4GHZ soon though, I have like 20C headroom lol.

quick update: my machine doesnt like CPU-NB oc-ing when running 3.8 :(
3.8 @ 1.425v goes upto 48Degrees C - works no problem prime 95 blend for days without any CPU-NB oc-ing.

3.8 with a slight bump in CPU-NB (2400Mhz) - fails miserably after 4 hours - Temps hit 51Degrees C (tried bumping up volts on CPU-NB and NB to no avail)

Will post a screenie once my prime run ends tonight. thanks everyone for their assistance.

Hi guys sorry that I've not posted all week been having too much fun at work :D but just wanted to thank Big.Wayne for the package he sent.

Anyone got a stable 4.0Ghz yet on a X4?

No worries Elfmeister! :) . . . there is absolutely no obligation on you or anyone else to keep posting! . . . I think it's a case of get some good clocks going and then get back to normal life (gaming etc)

I can do 4.1GHZ, I just haven't the time to mess around.
Like I say, currently 4.2GHZ as a dual core as I'm doing some dual core testing.

My third core's my weakest, it wouldn't suprise me if I could get 4.2GHZ on three cores.

gareth170 & Martini1991 what's the highest speed you have both achieved that is 8 hours prime blend stable? . . . . I think Martin may have the highest clock so far but I've not seen any stability shots apart from IBT/LinX? . . . I think though that Gareth has submitted the highest Prime blend . . .

Gurusan: Is there any chance you can get 4GHz? . . . Do you feel you have "attuned" yourself to AM3 clocking? . . . I say this because l also came from a three year run on LGA775 and it's a bit difficult to adjust, at least it was to me as the hardware "handles" differently! :)

If your not enjoying the lack of a "Happy" 4GHz stable machine then you may have to pilfer a AMD® Phenom™ II X4 965 BE from somewhere or sell up and get yourself an i5-750! :D

Big.Wayne, for prime blend stable i can get to 4.1ghz as a dual core. 3.8ghz as a quad. when i'm feeling better i will run prime95 again on the 4.1ghz as a dual core and take a screen shot.... also i'll try for 3.9ghz as a quad..

i have stoped using IBT/LinX as they give me fake results (says the system is stable when its not)

Wayne yes I have tried everything to get to 4GHz but it just isn't stable enough to run any benchmarks. I have tried up to 1.55V and tried messing with the ACC values as my 3rd core is funky and seems to like -4% best with the others @ -2%. As it's a dual core CPU I can't be too disappointed with 3.8GHz and 4 cores :D

To be honest I didn't find it that difficult coming from a 775 setup. In fact I found just moving from a P5Q Deluxe to an EP45T-UD3P to have a far greater learning curve (it took me nearly 2 weeks to learn the ins and outs of the board, I was surprised that it was so wildly different when it used the same chipset as the P5Q).

I would say that as on an Intel rig, the hardest settings to get right are the memory settings and finding the limits of the IMC or MCH.

And yes it seems that unless you get very lucky with a x2 555, if you want 4GHz then a 965 or 955 C3 revision are the only options...and for me I think if I am spending that much I'd rather go with an Intel setup. I don't think I will be able to afford the i5 750 for a few weeks so will be using an i3 530 in the meantime. :)
