AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Wayne i reckon we must av bought the board on the same day or something lol i got mine in november to :D. Thanks for posting your settings how come your not using the multi to overclock your cpu or do you not have the BE?

Also i cant seem to find the setting to ajust the cpu-nb freq and voltage could you point me in the right direction in the bios

thanks a mill buddy

Yes thats right. There seems to be some uncleanness about whether upping the ht link actually has an effect on performance though. I personally tend to keep it the same as the cpu-nb but thats just on a hunch as being the best thing to do.

Guys; I'm just going about my 955BE overclock and have some Q's:

After some reading, it seems the best way to overclock is to up the CPU Bus/HT Ref clock as it speeds up other components as well as the CPU and requires no voltage change to the CPU it self... Is this a correct assumption?

Currently I've got a 16.5 cpu multiplier, 230 CPU bus giving me 3.8Ghz @ stock voltages and idling at around 32-34c, and 44C under load.
Am I on the right track with this?

Cheers,

GunsAkimbo. you've got a BE chip so best way is to up the multipliers, not the HT Ref clock , that way it won't make your ram unstable.

also use prime95 on blend to test the system

Thanks gareth, you where right... it was horribly unstable under prime95 blend.
gone x19 and stock Ref clock with 1.48V @ 3.8Ghz ... runs at 55C under heavy load (prime95 blend) but doesn't die within moments of launching Prime95 in blend mode :)

Just got my new 955 setup today, have it running stable at 3.6 just by upping the multi so alls good. Should i run prime for 8 hours each time i up the multi?

what would you guys recommend for over-clocking and low temps on a 955 ?
Corsair H50 Liquid cooling system or a decent heat sink and fan ?
I have around £80 to spend ?

hindle8907, a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme + fan

lamps. u should run prime for about 30min - 1 hour each time u up the multiplier then once you've found the max u should drop down by 1 then run prime for 8 hours. then if you wanna go higher you'll need to start upping the vcore slightly..

Still stable on stock volts at 3.7 now. Reading about ill probally need to up the voltage for the next clock but will see. Whats the highest voltage i should ever go to on a 955BE?

Down to how close you like to live to the edge. Most people say 1.5v or below is their max. Some go a bit higher but I think most people would consider 1.6 to be foolhardy. :p

im currently about to test for 3.6ghz im going to set the vcore to 1.4 and i was thinking of pushing the cpu-nb multiplier up to 11x to give me a NB freq of 2200 would i need to up the cpu-nb voltage or would it be ok at stock? i think the stock is 1.1v not to sure on the max setting tho?

Im running stable at stock voltage at 3.7. If you want 3.6 id suggest just upping the multi to x18 and see if that is ok

Hey lamps, not sure if I missed you but welcome to the thread! :) . . . 3.7GHz @ stock volts is nice! . . . try and get some Prime Blending done post up some screenies! . . . . btw did you read the "Welcome Post" by any chance? :D . . . sorry to be a nag but can you delete the excessive quote in your last post #1238
