AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Nope failed to start with that as well, i have read that it might be a windows 7 problem could someone please confirm if you have windows 7 and whether Overdrive works or not. Maybe try it in Comp mode?

Other then that my choices are BIOS or Turbo-V which works fine, i havent overclocked with it yet but atleast that loads!

overdrive "seems" to work ok for me - thats with a newer than supported mainboard (M4A98GTD) - loads ok in windows 7 but not something I would use for overclocking (BIOS rules!).

Gareth - I completely get what your saying about lower temps that these CPU's like - Just merely mentioning the fact the higher the volts you use, the more heat - hence compromising on heat is the main rule with overclocking for a fully stable 24/7 rig - which is what I'm hoping we are all aiming for, and not just 'suicide overclocks' as I call them - lol :)

Even 8 hours prime blend is not enough to ensure full stability with these CPU's! - I've run many a session for a full 8 - 10 hours no problem - but if I leave it say 15hours+ it bombs out. Thats not what I would call fully stable - a PC should be allowed to be left under full load for at least 24 hours for 24/7 use ;) - but hey, thats my thinking of being in this game for nearly 15yrs - must be showing my age lol.

Also can you confirm from what I've read in a different thred - its pointless using coretemp to monitor a PhenomII chip? - The core values are software generated and that the only REAL value comes from the TMPIN0 as shown in everest and CPUID hardware monitor? - thanks.

zoomee. yes core temp is nothing just ignore..

use everest and hwmonitor , (TMPIN0 / TMPIN1 depending on motherboard)

for most people a 8-12 hours on prime blend is enough.. and run IBT after for about 20-30runs...

you say yours crash after 15hours but it could be many reasons why.

AMD OverDrive works fine on mine with a 965 in Win7 64bit.

why the hell wont it run on mine then :(
did you have to activate anything in the BIOS to allow it to use the OverDrive thing?
what Motherboard do you have?

my only other options are BIOS or Turbo-V by the looks

anyone want to try your cpu temp try battlefield bad company 2 for a hr solid and report back with your temps please

i find that game gets the cpu warmer than any benching prog ive tried

i ahve been a dumb*** and gone and lost the CD with Overdrive on it, i have the drivers for VGA as well as some Gamer thing and security thing but think i have manged to lose the one with Overdrive on it - guess theres nothing i can do now :(

already done that thing in the trust message :)
and i downloaded the Overdrive thing from that site less then an hour ago so i dont think downloading it again will prove to help anything, if it was a broken download then surely it would not have installed correctly?

Oh I see? . . . um didn't hear about an OverDrive problem before? . . . . . . should work fine with your board so something is amiss there . . . maybe in the meantime you can get some BIOS action going on?

yeah i thought its meant to work but reading on line seems i am not the only one that gets the "Failed To Start" error, i have uninstalled, reinstalled as Admin restarted and i cant really think of anything else i can do.

this is the first time i have tried it, i am sure the first time i ran it several weeks ago i got the same error and didnt think anything of it as i didnt know what it was and i was more curious then wanting it to work, now i want it to work but cant :(

I was thinking about trying the BIOS, but being new it seems kinda complicated : all i want is for it to be at 3.5Ghz so i can change the clock/multiplier thing to 17/17.5 but would i need to change any other voltages or anything, say i keep it all on Auto will it auto update the voltages and everything or will it be like my RAM where i have to set the Voltage myself - kinda silly that the BIOS cant detect and set itself to run at the required voltage
