AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

lol not brown town

Oi careful, NM is the capital of violent crime in Derbyshire (apparantly), you never know who you might be insulting.... :p

I will give that a read, although I doubt it'll help much, I have a 965BE C2, it's very rare for one to go over 3.8ghz.

1.6v is a bit high for my liking really...

Turned on ACC to see if it works... Already an hour of prime 3.825ghz seems stable on stock volts. Strangely enough, on the Crosshair III LCD screen, it reports the CPU temperature as 53c.
Will run it over night, fingers cross :)

How come you're overclocking the FSB instead of the multi?

Good result though, an hour of Prime at 1.400v is pretty good going. :) Doubt my C2 would do that at stock, it needed 1.525v to be stable at 3.800ghz...

Oh thank god... you scared me making me think the 62c was my CPU temp :p

I'm going to leave it there. Prime fails after 30 mins with FSB at 230mhz. Temps hit 55c overnight so don't want to fiddle with the voltages.

Here's my shot at getting the best SuperPi 1M score I could, not stable at all. I then tried upping the FSB to 202 to give me a clock of 4.040, but it wasn't having it.

Next plan is to run it with a vcore of 1.575v and use the AMD Overclock utility to up the multiplier further, hopefully I can make it stick at 4.1 or 4.2ghz long enough for a run. :P

This is on air cooling by the way, not that it matters as it's only under load for less than 18 secs. :P

My stable overclock is all the same settings as that, but with a multiplier of x19 to give 3.8ghz.

EDIT: I tried booting with it at 1.6v and then using AMD Overdrive Utility to bump the multiplier to 20.5 to give 4.1ghz, but it was reading it as 1.5v so I upped it to the max that program offers, 1.55v, applied it and it died almost instantly. :( Giving up on that now, don't think I'm ever going to break 17 secs. :P Not bad for a C2 anyway! I'd like to see what someone with a C3 and a posher motherboard can do. (Mine's only a Asus M4A79XTD Evo).

Mines stable at 4GHZ with 1.45v (Phenom 2 555 C3 unlocked) temps around 51c underload, haven't tried higher than 4ghz.

Hey guys, just done a fresh windows install on my system;

Phenom II X2 550 unlocked to a X4 B50
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P
Saphire HD5770
4GB OCZ Obsidian DDR3 1600MHz

and need a program to monitor the cpu temp. I know that with the unlocked 550 phenom II's you can't check each cores temp, but you can check the overall temp? I was doing it when I first built up the system at the start of this year, but can't remember what program I was using! I thought it was Everest but that doesn't seem to be free anymore??

Cheers for any help, borgia.

Cheers mate.

I can remember now why I never tried overclocking the chip. The temp seems VERY high just running as a quad. Think I definitley need to invest in a better cooler, as I'm just running the stock one! If I do though, I can't imagine I will have much room for overclocking? Would be nice to get it up to about 3.6ghz running as a quad, but not sure if thats too optimistic!

Zaim, I noticed you've got the zalman peforma cooler, would you reccomend it? Seems a good price at £26.99.

Can anyone else reccomend a good cooler for me? Cheaper the better! I've got an antec 300 case with 1x 120mm rear fan, 1x 140mm top fan and a 120mm front fan.

it's not a smart idea overclocking on stock heatsinks and fans,
i'm guessing the 78c temp is your processor? you might want to ditch the overclock until you get uprated HSF

as for a cooler, i use a arctic cooling freezer 7, it does the job very well
and it's cheaper than most
