Heh, we aren't saying
you can't do that, we are just saying that the manufacturer advises to remove the old driver first, so advising someone to do it any other way isn't a great idea. Heck I do the same as you with Nvidia cards. This is my first AMD card for a while and I was switching from Nvidia to AMD so my path was even more convoluted, but didn't involve driver cleaners etc. Just common sense.
But anyway, here's what I mean, lets go looking for the latest drivers and start from there.
Go to the latest version on the AMD site
here
Where it says:
AMD Radeon™ Desktop Video Card Drivers click on the link to the 64 or 32bit drivers of choice. e.g.
64 bit Windows Vista/Windows 7
You will come to the black ATI RAdeon Video Card Drivers page, click on the
Release Notes
Scroll all the way down to the bottom to where it says "
How to Install Your AMD Product." click on it.
Now you will want to "Choose the section that best matches your situation" which would be:
3.
Upgrade an old driver to the latest version from AMD.COM
Read to your hearts content.. please take note of point d.
