AMD Radeon R9 290X Video Card Review - AMD is launching the Radeon R9 290X today. The R9 290X represents AMD's fastest single-GPU video card ever produced. It is priced to be less expensive than the GeForce GTX 780, but packs a punch on the level of GTX TITAN. We look at performance, the two BIOS mode options, and even some 4K gaming.

This review will be published at 11:01PM CST tonight.

jesus, it's a new chip, it's pretty much the only chip designed for a gpu since the ones two years ago. GK110 was being made 2 years ago as was the 7970 and everything else we've seen. Chips get designed for different targets. It may have been designed to run higher temp, different transistors, or simply be happy and safe running at 95c thus it runs with a slower fan setting and higher temps.

95C is "hot" for a 7970, that doesn't mean it's "hot" for a 290x. What temps other cards run at are literally completely irrelevant.

It might overclock fine and stay at 95C with slightly higher fan noise. It might run hot because it's big, fast and it will be very noisy, either is possible.

?

What if you generally need to keep things cool in your case/ in your room?

What if you want to go Xfire with these? If 95 degrees is what a single card does i dread to think what two packed close together get up to!

On air cooling, overclocking is going to be pretty tricky especially if you need more volts.

I am sure there is nothing wrong with a single one running at stock at 95 degrees if you have a good case but there are other things to consider.

i dont want something @ 95c in my case..

I'm going hazard a guess.. And say that the card won't run as hot as 95c while gaming, isn't the temps people are quoting from furmark with the fans at 20%?

We'll see soon enough, but I'm sure most of the people buying them with have the fan running over 40%?

Hell every card I've owned I've always put it at 100% while gaming.

Then again noise isn't an annoyance to me.

This has been pointed out a few times in the various 290x threads but people still seem tone ignoring the furmark part and harping on about the 95o.
