AMD RADEON RX 470 SERIES NOW AVAILABLE FROM £164.99 DELIVERED!!

It pretty much is at this price point.

It scales with cost. 5% off a Mars bar is 3p - makes no difference. 50% is needed to make a difference here. Off a £200k house, well 1% would be a significant sum. Off a £250 gpu it needs to be 20% to 30%.

What on earth are you talking about? 10% is 10% regardless of the ticket price. Yes, on a really expensive house it's a larger absolute difference but that's hardly relevant. Do you mean that GPU is too overpriced and needs to drop by more to stop it being overpriced? From your previous posts it appears this is your sentiment but that doesn't match the above so I'm confused.

The absolute price of something and the absolute saving from a discount is very much relevant to decisions we make as buyers. At a higher price point, a lower percentage discount has a much greater effect. At the low end, a larger percentage discount is required for the same effect. This isn't a linear relationship.

For me it's about finding the value for money sweet spot with absolute budget being a secondary concern. In this context a £10 drop does not influence my buying decision because it is insignificant - it does not materially alter the cost / perf relationship.

I do think the gpus are systematically too expensive - but my point was more responding to the notion that a mature market will see £10 to £20 price cuts which I'm saying doesn't alter the buying decision.

Well you say that, but when Polos went from 10p to 12p it was news I tell you!

Bought one of the reference £165 pounds ones to mess around with. Il probably get a gtx 1050 as well when they come out to test it against and stick up a vs thread.

It's tempting, isn't it!

Would love to know how you find the noise. Those blower coolers are supposed to be a bit noisy if the card is being pushed.

I'l be sure to let you know. I'l be doing a wee bit mining on too. Could have got the 480 4gb for £200 but 35quid is 35quid and then I'd have to get a 1060 to test against which would end up an expensive experiment. Plus everyone is already doing that. I'm more interested in the more bang for buck segment.

Eyes peeled for a cheap 470 in MM folks :)

If it's deciding if you can have a chocolate bar at all then you've kind of got a point, unless you can only afford it with a few pennies off and still be able to get the bus! :D
If it's deciding which chocolate bar to buy then one being even slightly cheaper could sway the decision (though for me it moves in 5p increments cause I don't want to carry round coppers... kinda not relevant for GPUs :p). Given the price/perf ratios are so tight through a large section of the range small movements should be relevant to your decision making - I've certainly altered my recommended options in spec-me threads based on fairly small price fluctuations in the past.

I agree the cards are overall a bit pricey though if people are buying I can't see them coming down :(

My 470 Nitro showed up about an hour ago. I fully expected it not to work in my old z68 mobo as it hasn't had a BIOS update in about 4 years but popped it in and it's all working fine. Should be a decent upgrade from my old 7850 :)

I'm not actually sure the CUINFO tool will work on Polaris.

Some brave individual may have to try and flash a 470 with a 480 bios, though I certainly wouldn't recommend you be the guinea pig. No doubt others will try and post their findings on the net in the coming days / weeks.

Yeah i'll not be messing around with flashing the BIOS :)

It's almost a shame everything is going into a new case tomorrow and i won't be able to see this anymore

I would be interested to find out about your experience with the 470. I am still on the fence about buying the sapphire.
