AMD Readies A10-7890K, A8-7690K and Athlon X4 880K Socket FM2+ Chips

I can't even find an AMD tablet/Laptop that I'd even consider buying.

For a Tablet it'd basically have to be nigh on close to my Surface 3 Pro's build quality, with at least a 1080p screen.

And same with a Laptop being close to my Ultrabook in terms of build and screen resolution.

I just bought my grandad a Braswell N3150 itx all in one to replace his g540.
It's a quad core 2.1ghz with hd 12 eu's. Now this was much like Amd's am1 attempt at a tablet soc but the most impressive thing about it is the 10-12w power consumption even with 2 slots full of ddr3l memory.
I would gladly use one of these as a htpc, but there was a problem with getting support for dts hd audio master.

Like you said where is Carrizo L and the scaled down puma+ ?

Why would they churn them out though? OEMs just wouldn't use them.
Extremely frustrating, as I would happily move to a laptop that had one of these in (as long as it wasn't a plastic, terrible screen, mess).

They are cheaper to buy and have greater yield rates on the gpu than intel. It provides better performance on the apu/gpu compute and 4k h.264/265 hdmi2, and put into a nice chassis wouldn't be a problem to sell. The offset of the price for the soc could be used to fund a reasonable spec screen, or chassis.

I share the frustration too as I'm a believer in the potential of Amd Apu's.
i always said when Intel catch up to Amd on the igp then Amd are completely irrelevant.

HP limit the tdp of the AMD option, so it'd not be a wise purchase.
The performance just isn't where it needs to be when they do that. (300mhz GPU core, awesome... )

It is actually annoying, as AMD made a reasonable sized song and dance, when they launched this damn chip. Incompetent management.

Jeez... get your own thread for discussing this lol. Thread is about the new APU chips coming out, not laptop stuff.

Oi you cheeky bugger I've contributed great info in this thread and other amd threads, Carrizo is Kaveri shrunk down with an updated Igp.

:p

:D

If you can manage to jerry rig a Carrizo into a FM2/FM2+ slot, I'll fund your next beer.

* Jerry Rig implies that it will work.

You know the rumour that amd are just there to stop monopoly laws for intel nvidia and to assist in product tier pricing.
I cannot see any reason than this, which explains why a company on death doors still has an execution problem .

Think the Athlon X4 880K might become a real budget gem. FM2+ mobo's are cheap as chips, throw in a 880K 4GHz quad core and something like an 370 and you have a cheap lil gaming build.

What is the advantage of this cpu over a 2nd hand i7 ? What is cheap as chips ?

120 quid buys you a 2600k + mobo, or a first gen i7 ( like i7 940) + mobo...

And it's not even a ''real'' quad core, it only has 2 floating point units doesn't it ? Unlike the intels who are real quadcores, and even have HT for 8 threads...

I've recently had a punt with AMD again ( I build pc's from 2nd hand stuff and sell em on in the weekends), but I don't see it being value for money compared to sandybridge. Way to expensive for the performance you get. Unless you're obsessed with new, AMD has far worse value for money. I mean per clock they're barely any faster than the ages old core 2 quads, let alone the i gen cpu's from intel.

I get what you are saying, but at least compare that to AMD second hand prices.

What is the advantage of any new product vs second hand?

AMD 2nd hand prices are quite high though, an X3 or X4 is still a good tenner more expensive than an LGA775 quadcore often.

775 is dead to be fair, as is Athlon x3/x4 level stuff. It is i5 or better nowadays. Really old tech prices just tend to get really weird.

I wouldn't recommend an AMD setup at the moment anyway unless someone was really strapped for cash or had a special need for a igpu. On a personal note, I don't have anywhere like the Members Market to pick up 2nd hand stuff reliably anymore (I don't consider auctions sites reliable lol).

I love picking up 2nd hand stuff and have saved a bunch of money over the years so I totally get where you are coming from.

Could you not say this about any used bargain price product?

We were talking about cheap budget PC parts, obviously new pricing.

But yeah second hand used prices are good when compared to newer stuff...

From my own research it seems amd will offer an update on am1 and fm2+.
They will be releasing an Am1 5370 2.2ghz.
Fm2+ Athlon x4 835/845 carrizo based.
Fm2+ Athlon x4 870k/880k kaveri/godaveri based.

Also the fm2+ apu's will have an upgraded cooler included.

You are correct on the AMD Athlon 5370 2.2GHz Quad Core (Socket AM1) but i cant see its worth it for the very small increase in speed.

Totally agree, but the higher multiplier will help those using the asus am1ia, to get an easy to reach 2.5-2.8 ghz or more.
I have a 5150 and the 5370 would be bought for my gf, but the price of £ 42 is too much.
