AMD Readies A10-7890K, A8-7690K and Athlon X4 880K Socket FM2+ Chips

Totally agree, but the higher multiplier will help those using the asus am1ia, to get an easy to reach 2.5-2.8 ghz or more.
I have a 5150 and the 5370 would be bought for my gf, but the price of £ 42 is too much.

What you mean is you will buy the Girl friend the 5370 but put it in your pc and let her have the 5150 nice idea.
Shame they didn't make a 3.2ghz Am1 chip instead i would have been well impressed then.
I have both the Asus AM1I-A and the Asrock AM1H-ITX boards but just need the extra cpu power to make me satisfied.

Another retailer seems to have put up listings for the chips. The X4 880K seems to run at 4GHZ with a 4.2GHZ Turbo and is around £70 to £75.

The Excavator based X4 845 seems to be only £50!

The X4 845 seems to be come with a better cooler too:

+1 with improved 95/65w coolers although the athlons need to be competively priced considering skylake pentium/i3 are squashing them down a bit.

It'll be interesting to see the X4 845 benchmarked. Since this could give us a decent guess at how Zen will perform.

i.e. X4 845 + 40% (IPC that is)

Yeah, would like to see how it performs, and overclocks.
If MSI release a BIOS for my mobo, I'd buy one at £50. Would be good to see if it showed the performance increase AMD claimed.

The Athlon II X4 845 is tested:

For some reason its extremely fast in SuperPi,matching a 5GHZ Kaveri at 3.8GHZ and in CB 11.5 is the equivalent of a 4.3GHZ Kaveri even though it is running at 3.5GHZ to 3.8GHZ!! The X4 845 only has half the L2 cache of Kaveri too!!

I have a feeling Bristol Ridge will be a decent improvement all round IMHO!!

For around £50 its not too bad it appears!!

Oooo some soon to be released goodies?!? Been out for a month or so with all things PC.... must get upto speed again.

Thats a third of the price of an Intel quad core? and about half the price of the lowest end i3?

Looks impressive enough to me.

I looked at the first link I came across, and immediately saw the 845 having PCI 3.0 8x rather that 16x. Hmm...

I have to also admit that I don't "play" prime 95, cinebench or superpi etc, so I'm not really sure what the results mean yet for overall usage of the PC.

exactly, I like Flnk3r he has great knowledge but his test data is pointless,
I want to see real gains in real software like handbrake encoding, power consumption, and software that makes use of the extensions.

I honestly never thought they would release Carrizo (spl?) for desktop. Pretty cool. Interested in how it overclocks, and what it's performance is against things like the 2500k and obviously my 7850k. I really want to upgrade my CPU (for no real reason lol), so keen to see what the differences are in gaming (my primary reason for a fast chip), and things like decoding/encoding on the fly compared to Kaveri.

Also... just release the 880k already damnit!!

Not really when you consider the hd530 graphics on the Skylake and better cpu performance.

Only if you don't want to add a graphics card.

I just priced up two systems and the price difference difference between the two is pretty big. You can almost add an R7 360 to the Athlon 845 Carrizo system.

The igp is disabled on carrizo fm2+ you'd have to buy or use an existing gpu.
It is too early to state the money saved is worth it when you consider that this particular apu hasn't been tested with a gpu against its intel parts. Also you have kaveri/kav_athlons which will probably provide better solutions with upgraded coolers for £60ish or the skylake pentiums.
