AMD releasing an R9 380X

They're pretty much neck and neck in most games, from what I'm reading. The 380 does come out a little quicker in some games.

For sure I wouldn't buy a 960 tho. It's too gimped for the money, and should really have been a 950.

I hope the 380X is real, but given AMD's recent pricing, I won't hold my breath for sensible pricing.

Same thoughts foxeye. I spent agrees trying to decide which was the better purchase and read so many reviews and watched loads of videos to get a good feel across the board. I wouldn't be unhappy with a 960 at all, only that as I have three monitors, it takes the 960 out of its sweet spot.

The 380x would seal the deal, but I suspect it would be an extra 50 pounds extra and I doubt that will be as good value compared to the 380. Too close to the 390 and you may as well spend the extra imo.

Isn't the 380 a good bit faster though? As well as having ample bandwidth unlike the asthmatic 128? bit on the 960.

It's 0-10% faster but when you factor lower PSU requirements and the free game, the 380 ends up being 30-40% more expensive! That's just insane considering the 960 isn't an amazing bang for buck..

Dude both will run fine off my XFX PRO 450W PSU.

Seriously, the melodramatics...

I was running overclocked 8800GTS 512MB and HD5850 1GB cards off a SFF Shuttle 450w PSU and it was a group regulated non 80+ design. The system lasted nearly 5 years.

My Core i7 and a GTX660 or GTX960 was lucky to see 200w at the wall when gaming.

The 380X isn't supposed to be a 'flagship' (maybe showcase is the better word?) card so I don't think the price will be as high for the performance you are getting.

The 380/390 is where AMD shines, for the price and performance, I'm hoping the 380X sits nicely between them.

Would be nice to actually see a fully enabled tonga. They have been selling cut ones for so long I was starting to think there was something intrinsically wrong with it.

Where about's would the 380X stand compared to the 290 series cards?

for 1920p and 1440p the 380x will be just below a 290 or in the same ballpark.
seems for me as a 380x will slowly replace the 380 as it will sit between 380/390 and the price becomes interesting as a 390 with 8gb are the king atm in that bracket.

380x beats the 960 and the 970 while cheaper so it can be a huge seller.
